KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Current have re-signed beloved defensive midfielder Desiree Scott to a one-year contract.
The Canadian Women’s National Team member missed all of the 2023 season with a knee injury that also kept her out of the 2023 Women’s World Cup as well.
Scott was a captain in 2022 for the Current’s NWSL Championship run and has 124 appearances in the league with over 10,000 minutes played.
The decorated veteran also has nearly 200 caps for her country with three World Cup appearances (2011, 2015, 2019), two Olympic Bronze medals in 2012 and 2016 and a Gold Medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The 36-year-old is one of a few veterans on the team that has a history with new head coach Vlatko Andonovski since they were both with FC Kansas City in 2013.
Scott was part of the first Utah Royals team that ceased operations and transferred to Kansas City as an expansion team.
Other roster moves
In other roster moves, the Current traded goalkeeper Cassie Miller to NJ/NY Gotham FC in exchange for $70,000 in allocation funds and $30,000 in intra-league transfer funds.
Miller was an unrestricted free agent and signed a one-year contract through the 2024 season to facilitate the trade.
She played 12 games, including 10 starts and four clean sheets in 2023. Miller has 27 career starts in three seasons with five clean sheets and a goals-against-average of 1.15.
Kansas City also signed midfielder Bayley Fiest to a two-year contract. Fiest comes from the Washington Spirit.
The 25-year-old had 38 appearances in Washington with 18 starts and 1,873 minutes played.
The team will finish training this week in Kansas City before heading to Irvine, California, through Feb. 5.
The team will also train in Bradenton, Florida, from Feb. 16 through March 3 with the full schedule of preseason exhibition matches to be released at a later date.
