So many times "Follow - up" or "Vol. 2" releases fall short of the original recording; but not this one, "Michael Feinstein Sings The Burton Lane Songbook, Vol. 2" was released in November of 1992; and it still sounds fresh today.

This collection, and its predecessor "Michael Feinstein Sings The Burton Lane Songbook, Vol. 1" perform an especially valuable function; Lane is unaccountably less renowned than he should be; and this cd brings some of his best, along w/ the little known gems such as "It's Time for a Love Song," and "Your Head on My Shoulder," to the attention of an entirely new generation of music lovers.

Fans of Michaels and those yet to discover his talent, will love this release because as an artist he refuses to simply rely on his past achievements; settling for what's ordinary is not a Feinstein trait.

I highly recommend this offering and Vol.1; I don't believe you will be disappointed.

I am a big Michael Feinstein fan, I have most of his CDs. I've always wanted this one, but never been able to snag one at a good price so alas I had never heard it. I just took a trial subscription to Amazon Music Unlimited, just what I desperately need with close to 2000 CDs and a few hundred LPs, still. But, for $1 what the heck. BTW, I am pretty sure I am going to continue after the 3 month trial period. I figure if I just listen to 2 CDs that I have always wanted to hear a month, and I already have a whole page of albums I want to get to for probably only a single listen, maybe 2, then its worth the price to me. Hey I just got a plug for Amazon's Music Streaming service into a review. You are welcome Amazon! I just finished listening to this via the stream and it is going almost to the top of favorite Michael Feinstein CDs, along with Remember (the Irving Berlin Album), Pure Imagination, and Live at the Algonquin. Now I am aware that this one may not be to everyone's taste, but it sure is to mine. First, there is a larger percentage of songs I was not familiar with, most of them very good. Of course that is redundant because who knows a good song when he hears one better than Michael Feinstein. "I Want a New Romance," The World is In My Arms" and "Don't Let it Get You Down" stand out. What kills me is how many great songs there are out there that I have never heard or at least am not real familiar with. Makes me realize how much work I still have to do and I'm getting on in years. Second is the number of clever lyrics that get packed into a mere hour of time, and I am a sucker for a neat turn of phrase. How about these for examples; One Around rhymed with Runaround, followed by Heaven Bound from "I Want a New Romance" and Polyanna rhymed with Hosanna from the VERSE of "I Hear Music." Now hearing the verse alone is a wonderful present, as I have NEVER heard it before and it is quite delightful. I am going to take it down from the recording and incorporate it into my performances of the song as I often use it to open a second set. Other nifty surprises are a few new lyrics from "She Wasn't You" which is from On a Clear Day, which I am very familiar with and a second chorus for "The Lady's in Love With You." This CD is simply a smorgasbord of treats. The composer's piano playing is another delight, he is clearly having a ball playing his own stuff.

What can I say about this to summarize except that for music geeks like me this CD is highly recommended as one of Michael's best. .

I am a great fan of allmost everything Michael Feinstein does, and his collection of the American songbook, is a treasure of songs to remember.
My favorite on this album is the songs from "On a clear day", but everything is really lovely music.

This is a very good follow-up to volume one. Here is the usual mix of familiar and lesser known. Feinstein gives a crisp performance apart from a couple of lapses into sentimentality whilst Lane again shows off a lively talent on the piano.
