However, the chemistry between Errol Flynn, Alan Hale and Guinn Williams is great, I think that Hale and Williams bring a lot of comic relief. I think that the cast of this film is very good. I like the ending where Flynn was willing to lose his life then to tell them where the gold was. To me that's a genuine hero. There are some parts where it's kinda slow, but I really like it. Tho it downplayed the Slavery motivation of Rebel partisans, the take-away theme, coming near the beginning of USA IN WW2, was reunifying the country, not demonizing Southerners. Ranges from Virginia City,Nevada to Richmond Virginia! From Jefferson Davis to Lincoln BTW, it premiered, with the stars, in VIRGINIA CITY, NEV., in 1940 Saw on the TV screen, Jan 2022. Also Alan Hale SENIOR., & WARD BOND (minor part) Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review john m Thank God John Ford eventually took these kind of movies to a more interesting place. Don't get me wrong, like a lot of Curtiz's films, this is gorgeously shot with a great admiration for the genre, but never wants to address any of the inevitable themes that come with that territory, like John Ford and Clint Eastwood would do.
