My wife and I were in Grapevine on a Saturday night and decided to visit Big Fish for our first time. At 6 PM this place was hopping and we were told our wait for a table might be 45 minutes. It was a nice...evening and we waited outside watching people as they strolled through town. We were seated within 35 minutes. Our waitress , Fanny, was friendly and took our order. We each ordered the shrimp cocktail Vera Cruz as appetizers, blackened shrimp for dinner and substituted a cup of soup (small upcharge) for one of our side options. We were quite impressed with all the food. The shrimp cocktails were exceptional and very large, the soups were very good and the blackened shrimp were perfectly seasoned and cooked. The only things we wished were handled differently was the serving of our meal. The shrimp cocktail s and soup were served at the same time after a pretty good wait (yes the place was busy) and just after the delivery of those items, out came our dinners before we had a chance to really begin on the appetizers and soups. Next time I'll request better timing of food delivery to the wait staff. Also noticed that their menu prices may need updating as the price of the shrimp cocktails on our bill was a tad bit higher than stated on the menu. Overall it was a very good experience and would be glad to make a return trip.More

This is our family’s favorite place to eat, even the little ones that are picky eaters. We’ve eaten here over 40 times & have never had a bad meal. The staff is friendly & quick. It’s a smaller place designed for parties of 4-5 so...if you expect your group of 9 Karen’s to be happy ... keep strolling down the sidewalk to Wilthots.More

I had the fish tacos and an appetizer cup of gumbo. I asked the waiter if the chef's name was Boudreaux or Thibodeaux, because the gumbo was pure authentic Cajun gumbo. Fish tacos were reqlly good as well. My wife had the combination dinner, with...shrimp and catfish and she loved it. When she took the first bite of the red beans and rice, she looked up at me and held out another spoonful. Once again, pure Cajun! On top of the great food, the prices were very reasonable. This is now a go to restaurant for us when we go to Grapevine!More

We were seated by a young man that had an attitude. Our waitress finally showed up about 5 minutes after we were seated and took our drink and appetizer order, a few minutes later she brought our drinks but never the appetizer. She also had...an attitude as though she couldn't be bothered. My wife ordered the blackened scallops which were not blackened and they were very small, not the jumbo as advertised and only three of them. I ordered the blackened redfish which was decent but a very small portion. The veggies, the mashed potatoes and the red beans and rice were tasteless. We were expecting much more than this, a chain restaurant serves better food than what we received. We watched the staffs interaction with what we believe to be regulars and it was 180 degrees different than the service we received. I doubt we'll go back which is a shame, we live in the town next to them.More

Sadly all three things we ordered were terrible. One of the items we actually returned. That was a shrimp cocktail. My girlfriend asked me if I wanted to try it, after about a minute trying to find a piece of shrimp in the shrimp cocktail...I called the waitress over and informed her there's no shrimp in the shrimp cocktail. I obviously returned it. We both decide on the soups she ordered a clam chowder which she typically loves and said it was not very good. I ordered the gumbo and the description on the menu it's exactly the way I like it, unfortunately it was also not very good. Even the bread I requested was dry and small so not even some decent bread to go along with the meal. All in all just a huge disappointment and the main reason I'm writing this review is not trying to hurt the ownership of this cute little restaurant but to save the tourist the same terrible experience we had. This was our experience on the three things we ordered maybe there are other dishes that are much better I would like to think all additional dishes would be better.More

This was seriously one of the worst meals I've had in a really long time. The oysters were giant, bloated, chewy messes with no briny taste at all, and the crab cakes had absolutely no crab. We left 3/4 of the food on the plates...and when the waiter took away the food and we said the oysters were really bad she just said, oh well, sorry. No questions, no manager, no offer to replace or take the item off the tab. We will never go back there.More

How can a restaurant have no manager. The place is dirty, bathrooms especially and the food is not good. We had friends stay at our house while we were out of town and wanted us to recommend places to eat on Main St. Before I...could tell them they had gone to Big Fish. They wished they had been told before. Enough said!!! If you are new in town, there are other good seafood places around.More

What happened?? Big Fish used to be the spot to eat great seafood.. I ordered a grilled filet sandwich and it was bland as nothing, the broccoli slaw was bland, I ended up sharing my wife’s food. The server was clueless and never offered any...condiments or anything. What an awful experience.More

Went to Bigfish Grill for dinner last night... The recommendation was given on good portions, quality and value. That was found to be valid, but our experience was less than great. We were seated in a well-worn booth where the seat cushions had sizeable tears...in them. I noticed that several booths had the same, and that is basically not so comfortable. My daughter looked at me with uncertainty, but I reassured her that sometimes the food is really good in spite of such things. The friendly and courteous server came promptly. She took our drinks as we decided on the menu. My daughters each chose the grilled salmon salad, and my wife and I wanted fish tacos. Hungry- I eagerly ordered an appetizer of calamari to share. The wait for the food was longer than what we hoped for as the calamari never came. The grilled salmon presented nicely grilled with capers on fresh salad. The taste and quality were good. The cucumber slices were crisp and tasty. My wife and I have lived in southern California, and we know and love fish tacos- with salsa mind you. What was brought to us was fish wrapped in a flour tortilla, pressed on a grill with cheese in the middle (Americans love cheese you know) served with a secret sauce aka thousand island dressing. What happened to the calamari? They forgot and offered to bring it at no charge if we wanted. I was eager to try the calamari and asked them to bring it anyway. The calamari was lightly breaded, fried tenderly and very good to eat. But I was wanting for a good cocktail sauce and some spiciness. In the end, we ate everything, but they didn't take the calamari off the bill as offered. I asked for it, so I didn't feel wronged. Still, it didn't go anywhere to ingratiate me as a customer, and I wondered about society's expectations at restaurants nowadays. It was a decent experience, but the question remains, "Will we go back for more?" I know my answer.More

Great premise of a New Orleans style restuarant in a TX town. Casual dining experience with a diner feel. Gumbo was good and chunky with sausage and vegetables. The etouffee was tasty, though a bit salty and prices were fair. We were late in eating...but staff still friendly despite being last customer.More

This is the first time my wife and I have eaten here and mine wasn’t good. Breading on the catfish had no taste, waffle fries were cold. The clam chowder had meat in it but if it was a clam they were the biggest clams...on the planet. Looked and tasted like chicken.More

We had lunch here on a Sunday because they don't take reservations and we didn't have time to wait on Saturday night (huge line, come early!). We showed up just after 11am to beat the crowd for lunch and there was a sign on the...door saying they were running behind and would not open until 11:30. That was a little disappointing.... But we waited and once we were seated the service was good and the food had great taste. I would have rated 4 but the late opening was a disappointment.More

Great service and food - split an appetizer of Buffalo flavored shrimp (sauce had enough kick without burning your mouth) - Then we had the blackened redfish w/seafood sauce and blackened shrimp poboy. Then finished the meal with a slice of bread pudding. Price was...reasonable for the portions and our service was outstanding - definitely will be back to try something newMore

I have been here a few times and had meals that were just ok, so I wasn’t excited when this was chosen for lunch. I went along, but never again. The place feels a little grubby and run down, more like a greasy spoon or...diner. We were seated right away. Our server was excellent and I can’t fault the service. The food was a huge disappointment though. I ordered grilled shrimp which were tough and overdone. The seasonal vegetables were a bit undercooked (ok) and cold (not ok.) I got the broccoli slaw which turned out to be big chunks of raw broccoli, with some soft, brown spots, and cabbage with a thick, unappetizing, pink dressing. Tea was good and the refills were frequent, but I regretted that when I had to use the restroom. It was like a bad gas station restroom—so gross! There are better options. Choose wisely.More
