Just four days before Mother’s Day, Stop & Shop and the New York Islanders made this Wednesday morning quite special for Stefanie Balestrieri, an unsuspecting New York Mom, and her children. Former Islanders’ Defenseman Eric Cairns, and the NY Islanders Mascot, ‘Sparky the Dragon’, took them shopping at the Carle Place Stop & Shop. Stop & Shop covered the cost of this Mother's Day shopping spree.

Women are still the primary grocery shoppers in family households and Stop & Shop and the Islanders wanted to make the routine a little more special ahead of Mother’s Day.
The lucky Mom received balloons, flowers, and Islanders gear. Known as defensive enforcer, Cairns played 10 seasons in the NHL and 6 seasons with the Islanders (1998-2004) and is currently the Director of Player Development for the New York Islanders.
