Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) It never pressed the point, but progress in this narrative was having Aboriginal characters who could be a red herring or a villain, a survivor of trauma or a wily operator. Rated: 3/5 Oct 22, 2019 Full Review Robert Lloyd Los Angeles Times It's less a matter of red herrings, though, than of becoming less sure, about the plot, and about the people - you think you know them, but people will fool you. Oct 18, 2018 Full Review Suzi Feay Financial Times Pedersen's characterisation is subtle and underplayed, and his scenes with Davis crackle with tension. Rated: 5/5 Sep 21, 2018 Full Review John Boland Irish Independent What distinguishes it from other series are the strikingly arid landscapes and the performances by Aaron Pedersen, as a laconic out-of-town detective, and Judy Davis, as the local cop. Worth staying with, I think. Oct 2, 2018 Full Review Anne Brodie What She Said A slow simmering outback noir, where hot white sunshine and bleached out desert hides evil deeds. Oct 2, 2018 Full Review George M. Thomas Akron Beacon Journal Runs too long for its own good, but ultimately it wants to do nothing more than entertain. In that respect, it makes the grade. KJ F Outback police frame totally let down by miscasting of Judy Davis who doesn’t even come close to realistic as an remote, outback cop; not to mention artificial looking red bobbed hair always looking like it had just been cut and blow dried every five minutes. Colin Friels manages the outback station owner character better. Maybe he only agreed to it, if Judy came too! Aaron Peterson good as usual although perhaps a little too over directed, as the broody silent type detective. Disappointed that critic reviews not very honest, maybe a bit scared to criticise so called “iconic” Australian actors perhaps? Great outback scenery though. Although it has interesting twists to who is bad guy, just felt a bit lacklustre. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/07/24 Full Review Audience Member It's an average Aussie outback police series. Judy Davis must have been short of a dollar to appear in this show. Totally miscast as an outback cop. She's a pipsqueak who hasn't spent 5 seconds in the sun. She looks a muppet with a red wig. Aaron Pedersen is very credible. However, the Aussie outback is shot very well. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Few good plot threads. Mediocre acting and directing. Tried using pseudo fancy photography to give it weight. And failed. Good writing about the racsim, past and present. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazing scenery, good story, great acting Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
