I am transferring to UCLA in the fall but I am very familiar with the school because I have grown up in Los Angeles and know many students there currently. I am elated to be entering into the student body of UCLA, I love the anthropology programs and the professors in mine field. I cannot wait to work side by side with such great minds and a positive learning environment.
I loved my experience there. My department (Institute of Society and Genetics) and my major (Human Biology and Society) was amazing. I really enjoyed the course material, and the professors really cared about each and every student.
I love UCLA and the community here! It is so easy to get involved with afternoon clubs and adventure with friends on the weekends. The academics and professors are top tier and I LIVE FOR the quarter system! The food is insanely delicious and the housing is... well liveable (it's LA, what can you expect LOL).
Attending my first year at UCLA I came in nervous, anxious, and excited. Nobody in my family had ever gone to such a big institution before. I have 2 roommates who were picked at random, and that was the best choice I have made. We did not know each other before our first day together, but now we are all best friends. I like how welcoming everyone has been. Professors and TA are eager to meet students and do what will benefit them the most. I love the community UCLA has fostered and the support faculty gives to the students. The change I would like to see is how school officials responded to peaceful protests. It was very disheartening to see police on campus attacking students and threatening them for peacefully protesting. In the future, I hope to see school officials deal with situations better and look out for their students more rather than keep their status amongst the elite.
I loved it here! It was a great balance of academic rigor, student opportunities, campus life, and social life outside of campus.
Great student environment and lots to do around campus! Student diversity is super nice too and everyone has a place to belong.
I am finishing up my 2nd year at UCLA and I have had some great moments at UCLA. I enjoy the campus life and the different opportunities for students to participate in like club sports, media( ucla radio and daily bruin), career fairs, etc. Also, the campus food is pretty great, number 1 public dining hall. However, there can be a slightly toxic culture around clubs. There are so many different and various clubs on campus, which is amazing. Its just a lot of the clubs have very long and challenging acceptance rate. The clubs can be very selective about the people they allow in their circle, which creates an air of cliques and loneliness for yourself. I am a dance major at UCLA, and while the school has great resource the department is under funded so it would be great to have more funding to have more opportunities. Overall UCLA is a great school you just have to take advantage of every opportunity offered.
Amazing school, would for sure recommend if admitted. Food is amazing as they say and the campus doesn't get any nicer.
I recently got accepted, so I don’t have a lot of experience at this school. I went to Bruin Day and the ASU admit weekend so I had a taste of what UCLA had offer. Overall, the best part so far has been the food, and I saw the dorms which I enjoy. The worst part would honestly have to be the buildings and transportation methods. The buildings are outdated, and there are a lot of hills. So the only way you can travel is through an electric scooter and the buildings just don’t look as appealing. But those are really cons… They’re just complaints. I wouldn’t really change much.
Overall, I've loved my experience at UCLA so far. I am a first-year biology major, so while I've taken some classes I haven't liked, most of my classes have been very interesting and enjoyable. My professors have all been super kind and understanding, and most professors seem to care about their students genuinely. Coming from a smaller school, I took a while to get used to the large lecture-style classes that are common here, but they are still beneficial if you put in the effort to take notes and pay attention in class. Most classes also have a smaller discussion/lab once a week with a small group of students, which I love because I still get that small-class, personalized environment that is extremely beneficial to my education.
I've enjoyed living on campus in the dorms this year, as my experience with my roommates has been amazing, and the resources you get from living on the Hill are great. UCLA has great food and dining hall options. I've also met amazing people here.

Most of my professors were great, lots of office hours, they really wanted to help us, lots of opportunities given to us and the campus is beautiful and in a great area. However, they did not help freshmen adjust to living away, the dorms were incredibly small and packed, the transition to online came with less than great professors and my tuition was incredibly expensive while being online despite not being able to use the facilities. My graduation ceremony was thrown together poorly.
The experience at UCLA is one for a book. Maybe not the books if you're not used to PWIs but it's still a book in a chapter of a life. There are many opportunities up for grabs if you like grabbing. There is always a way around something even if you have to be intelligent sometimes. UCLA will encourage your academic journey if that's what you want, but remember, universities do not care if you flunk out. They care about how hard you try to stay afloat.
I absolutely LOVE it here. I 100% made the best choice choosing UCLA. The food is amazing, the classes are challenging (but there is plenty of support offered), there are plenty of jobs available if needed, there is always something to do, the parties are amazing, and the students are all really diverse and nice. My only ONLY complaint is enrollment. There are a LOT of students here, and that makes getting the classes you need challenging. That would be my only suggestion to change something; making enrollment smoother. But other than that, this school is perfect.
I particularly appreciate the dedication of the faculty members who are not only experts in their fields but also genuinely invested in the success of their students. The academic rigor here is challenging yet rewarding, and I feel like I'm constantly growing and learning.
However, there are also areas where I believe there's room for improvement. One concern is the accessibility of mental health resources. While UCLA offers counseling services, there can be long wait times for appointments, and the demand often exceeds the available resources. Enhancing mental health support systems could greatly benefit the overall well-being of students.
Additionally, I think there's an opportunity to further promote diversity and inclusion on campus.

The food is pretty good for college food although the lines are rather long. There are a wide array of student groups available to join. Grocery stores and downtown restaurants are within walking distance. If the professors are not available there are almost always Teachers Assistants available to chat with. They also have a helpful writing center available to students. The campus is very hilly so it does take a while to walk to class and it is not the most accessible campus for those with wheelchairs.
My experience at UCLA as an African American woman was very interesting, you can tell that the professor and the campus is not tailored to minorities. A lot of professors tell you instantly that they are not there to teach but to do research so there’s a lot of self learning.
I started my undergraduate schooling at UCLA during the Fall Quarter of 2019, and thus continue day freshman and sophomore year online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While not ideal, and while the administration's communication could have been better, I still did enjoy my time in person. There was always an event to go to, whether through clubs, on campus events, things of that nature. In addition, I enjoyed the friends I made, the groups I joined. I was in the marching band, joined in acting, even taught science to high schoolers all while being a full time student. I truly feel like college shot me in the right direction after graduation.
