Introduction to the Dean Search

With the University of Kentucky conducting a national search to fill the position of the new dean for the J. David Rosenberg College of Law, the finalists have been selected. Representing a diverse spectrum, these candidates will engage with the community through various platforms.

Open Forum for the Final Candidate

The final candidate, officially named Candidate C, is scheduled for an open forum at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 23 in the G. Chad Perry III Grand Courtroom in the Rosenberg College of Law. The forum seeks to introduce the candidate to the University community and encourage feedback.

Those who cannot attend the forum in person have been granted the option to participate virtually, as the forum will be made available on the platform Zoom. In order to maintain confidentiality and fairness, the name and CV of each candidate will be shared with the UK community only 24 hours before their respective forum on the official search website.

Community Feedback in the Selection Process

Following each forum, a confidential online survey about the candidate will be hosted on the search website for a period of 48 hours. This survey will be an opportunity for the UK community to evaluate the strengths and potential growth areas of each candidate. Those whose forums occur on a Friday will have their survey and forum recording available until 5 p.m. the following Monday.

The role of community feedback in the selection process is central, with supervisors encouraged to accommodate their team members’ participation in as many forums as feasible.

Decision Making and the Role of the Committee

Once the forum rounds are concluded, the final decision will be made by the UK Provost, Robert S. DiPaola, based on the feedback from the search committee and the UK campus community as a whole. The aim of this extensive search process is to identify the most suitable candidate to lead the next generation of leadership in the university’s law school, thereby advancing the Commonwealth’s collective knowledge and wisdom.
