Chairing the @hawaiifoodbank’s State Employees’ Food Drive is a great honor— witnessing the impact of community support through donations and volunteerism has been truly inspiring. Hawai’i Foodbank provides a critical service to our residents and is committed to ending food insecurity across our state. Together, we can ensure no one in Hawai’i goes hungry.
As the state office responsible for name changes, we are constantly seeking ways to improve the process.
This month, our office made the Minor Name Change Form fully available online. Now, parents and guardians can easily fill out the form and submit payment through the online portal. This is a significant step in modernizing our public services for our residents.

As a kid growing up in South Korea, I never would have imagined myself in this role. But as we celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, I continue to be inspired by fellow #AANHPI leaders who overcome adversity in their communities and show us all the importance of representation.

Mahalo to the Hawai’i Military Affairs Council (MAC) for inviting me to join their annual visit to Washington D.C. During my time with MAC, we had the opportunity to meet with key leaders of the U.S. Department of Defense.
Together, we discussed the need for furthering cooperation and understanding to honor Hawaiʻi’s unique heritage and environment, while continuing our relationships with the various sectors of our military partners.

As our state continues to modernize its services, Doug Murdock, Hawaiʻi Chief Information Officer, has been a key leader in this endeavor, overseeing some of the largest technology initiatives to ensure we remain at the forefront of data and technology.
Doug’s contributions to bringing innovative technology to our state are truly significant, and I was happy to recognize him and public sector IT leaders at the inaugural Hawaii Data + AI Summit.
In just one year, we have created over 200 new preschool seats for our children as part of the #ReadyKeiki initative. As we continue to build on this progress and expand opportunities for our keiki, quality early education remains essential.
That is why I’m grateful and proud of the charter and public preschools across our state for their continued commitment to preparing our keiki for kindergarten and their futures.

Preschool can cost anywhere from $1,200 to $2,000 a month. That’s why we’re committed to expanding access to preschool across our state to ensure that our keiki are ready to learn while giving families the chance to return to work knowing their children are in a safe learning environment.

I had the honor of meeting Executive Vice Governor of Fujian, Ms. Guo Ningning during her recent visit to Hawaiʻi.
From tourism, transportation, and infrastructure — we discussed opportunities for more exchange between Fujian and Hawaiʻi, and how to further foster the friendship between our two states.
