A group of millennials experimenting with a spiritually guided app successfully connect to the other-world and are ultimately guided to The Preston Castle. This ominous, historic site of murder and torture is connected to each of them in ways they’ll soon discover, thanks to the dead. oh really? they took inspiration from the true case of anna corbin and disrespectfully turned her into a vengeful ghost, but nothing that happens in this movie actually happened in real life. these filmmakers were too damn lazy to actually make a good movie so they claimed that it was based on true events in a pathetic attempt to get people interested. obviously, it didn't work in their favor and they should all be ashamed.

I was not expecting or prepared for that opening sequence and the few minutes after.
I mean.. geez.. if this was based on true events.. that was cruel.
As for the app/ghostly bit I liked the concept.

I watched this for Daddy Pollack (who looks incredible but is soooo drunk) and holy cow what a bonkers movie!
I dread thinking if this really was based on a true story.
I’m still trying to work out the plot with the older generation and their siblings. A bit confusing.
Tucking three stories, none of them overwhelmingly compelling, into one horror film, "Apparition" stretches its plot and the play-on-words to a flimsy, dismissible breaking point. Revolving around a boy who witnesses the death of his mother and is, in turn, sentenced to a reformatory where violent acts rule the day with one of those acts terrorizing teens 20 years later, the film eventually finds itself tracking the use of an app that can detect the dead. The narrative's different movements are equally limited, and the flat production does little to elevate the material. It is a thin experience.
A watchable ghost story about a fuct up residential school for bad kids or something with the added bonus of having a phone app made with binary and GPS; along with mysticism downloaded from the dark web that connects live people to dead people! We solve some scooby doo mysteries and after all that… dude gets attacked in the face by plants? For what it lacked in entertainment, I made up for with heckling. It wasn’t meant to be funny, but it probably didn’t help that whoever did the English subtitles on prime spelled out all the contractions. I was entertained.
Tip #1: Don't have a 20 minute prologue for your 80 minute movie.
Tip #2: Don't mistake "the dark web" with "Satanic Internet".
Tip #3: Don't make characters who are so unlikable and uninteresting you actively root for their deaths.
Tip #4: If you disregard #3, at least make the deaths entertaining.
Tip #5: Don't use Kevin Pollak in a serious role because I'll continue to wonder when he'll show off his William Shatner or Al Pacino impression.

Those looking for a fun bad movie will be sorely disappointed. It is competently acted, but has little else going for it. It way too mean spirited and cruel to be fun and boring to be entertaining or engaging.
It is utter trash that, while not the absolute worst, is not worth your time.
