NBA champion Richard Jefferson joined ESPN in 2019 as an NBA analyst, regularly appearing on shows across multiple platforms including NBA Today, NBA Countdown, First Take, Get Up, SportsCenter and Hoop Streams. Jefferson also serves as a game analyst for the NBA on ESPN. 

Jefferson, a versatile defender on the court and a veteran presence in the locker room, spent 17 years in the NBA. His jolt of energy pushed the Cleveland Cavaliers to their legendary 2016 NBA Championship win, the first in franchise history and Cleveland’s first major sports title in 52 years. Jefferson is known for giving fans a humorous behind-the-scenes look at life in the league on his popular podcast, Road Trippin’, and his famous Snapchat account, which earned him For The Win’s Best Sports Snapchatter of the Year award in 2016.

After his college basketball career at the University of Arizona, Jefferson was selected 13th overall during the 2001 NBA Draft by the New Jersey Nets. In 2002 he was named NBA All-Rookie Second Team. Jefferson was a key element to the Nets’ back-to-back Eastern Conference championships (2002, 2003). Jefferson was a part of the United States men’s basketball team at the 2004 Greece summer Olympics where team USA earned the bronze medal. He played for a total of eight NBA teams throughout his career before his retirement following the 2017-18 season.
