The Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland was founded on April 23, 1847. Under the Leadership of the Bishop of Cleveland, it is the twenty-third largest diocese in the United States. The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland and Villa Angela – St. Joseph High School (VASJ) are pleased to accept applications for the position of Principal. Founded in 1990 when Villa Angela Academy merged with St. Joseph High School, Villa Angela – St. Joseph High School is a diocesan-sponsored, co-educational, comprehensive, college preparatory high school rooted in the Ursuline and Marianist traditions. VASJ is committed to the spiritual, academic, and personal growth of each student. With a population of about 500 students in grades nine through twelve, Villa Angela – St. Joseph High School provides young men and women with a nurturing and supportive educational environment in which to grow academically, spiritually, socially, and morally.

The Principal works in partnership with the President of Villa Angela – St. Joseph, and both report directly to the Associate Superintendent for Secondary Schools in the Office of Catholic Education within the Secretariat of Catholic Education/Superintendent of Schools Office.

Position Qualifications:

  • A practicing Catholic who upholds the teachings and traditions of the Catholic Church.
  • Master’s degree in administration and valid Secondary School certificate or equivalent.
  • Five (5) years teaching experience, preferably in a Catholic high school.
  • Three (3) years administrative experience, preferably in a Catholic high school.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge, experience working with government programs related to education.
  • Knowledge, experience preparing annual State, Diocesan, North Central Association, and OCSAA reports.
  • Experience in the supervision and coordination of spiritual activities, educational instruction, curriculum, and school‐family activities.
  • Experience in fiscal and personnel management as it relates to the instructional program.
  • Experience in using multiple sources of data as diagnostic tools to assess, identify and apply instructional growth.
  • Desires to work in an environment that is flexible, collaborative, innovative and supportive of efforts to improve achievement of all students.
  • Experience in utilizing and integrating technology in a school setting.

Major Responsibilities:

Direct and guide the academic integrity of the school

  • Serves as the instructional leader responsible for all aspects of the academic program.
  • Coordinates and supervises curriculum development and instructional planning.
  • Observes and evaluates educational personnel and monitors all educational systems.

Enhance the culture and mission of the school

  • Leads mission effectiveness and faith leadership in keeping with the Roman Catholic Church tradition.
  • Designs positive school culture through student formation, activities, and behavior management.
  • Implements systems and programs to support the integral development of all students.

Serve as a steward of the success and longevity of the school

  • Assists with the implementation of the strategic plan.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as requested by the Office of Catholic Education.
  • Contributes to the enrollment management through admissions and retention programs.

Build relationships internally and externally

  • Leads and supervises deans, faculty, athletics, government programs, formation ministries, and principal’s office staff.
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff on day-to-day operations and overall effectiveness of the school.
  • Interacts with all constituents of VASJ as needed, proactively where possible.
