Just received an order of samples and a tin of EGR.

It’s burning in a meer lined Field and Stream Billiard as I write this and while I can see how aromatic lovers do enjoy this; I just can’t.

It just went out on its own and I’m not relighting it nor am I bashing this blend. That’s not my intent or my way. I’m just sharing.

Some can smoke all varietals and others find a single genre that suits them.

I’m a Burley lover and I need to keep reminding myself to not purchase any Aromatics, even with glowing reviews or in this case, my saying, “It’s Christmas-time, try something with great room note.”

What do I get from EGR? Captain Black Regular instantly came to mind, in flavor, not in it’s room note. The marshmallow taste is what I remember.

Oh well. Into the cellar it goes.

Happy Holidays to all fellow Forum Members!

I'm not all that fond of EGR, but from time to time I will have a bowl. I can't put my finger on why I don't care for it all that much. It's like I am with Carter Hall. Some days I like it and other days I'll dump the bowl about half way thru. I guess, for some, it's a love it or hate it blend.

Ray,
Some days I can taste Carter Hall and when I can I absolutely love it. Some days, hard as I try to coax any flavor from Carter Hall, I can’t... and then I load and light a bowl of Granger and pray that I haven’t lost my ability to taste it. Always just right!

But my experience with Aromatics is few. I get that marshmallow thing and it’s the furthest thing from any flavor I want to come from a pipe.

We like what we like. Not a bash of this tobacco. Just interesting how taste varies.

Feel free to bash me for my OTC’s. It’s perfectly ok, They’re MY jam. ?

Many a halo-rated review has caused each of us to purchase blends that are met with our dissatisfaction.

Conversely, and perhaps worse still, many a scathing review has prevented us from trying a blend that we might really love.

There really aren’t any shortcuts. But narrowing the type of tobacco you enjoy is a step in the right direction.

Life’s too short to smoke what you don’t like.
My problem is I like almost everything. I’ve only thrown one blend in the trash, ever. And I jarred it for a year or so and tried it again before chucking it.
Same here. The only blend that I actually dislike so far is Autum Evening. For some reason it tastes like I'm chewing on a celery seed.

Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend has been in my rotation since the 1960s. The taste has remained relatively constant for all those years. It is one of my few semi-aromatic tobacco choices.
Each person's reaction varies in all things sensate.
Smoke what you like; like what you smoke.

I like EGR, it is a nice smoke. I want to try Granger, as I have enjoyed all the codger blends I have tried thus far.

I don't know if it is too many years of Army mess halls, or what, but my taste buds aren't that picky. So while I have my short list of blends I love, I pretty much like everything I have tried. Except 1792. That one I did not like. Burned me like a Bangkok hussy.
