8530 wipes out my home wireless network - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com

If my 8830 is on and has the wi-fi enabled it causes my wireless home network to go down and I can't connect to the internet with my home pcs. I have to disable the blackberry wi-fi, power cycle my wireless (linksys wrv200) comcast modem and all pcs down and reconnect to comcast to bring everything back up and the blackberry can't be on and near the router. Has anyone ever had a similar problem? It's definitely the blackberry wi-fi causing the problem (messing up my wireless router). Any suggestions????

You might try going to a WiFi cafe, i.e., somewhere else that has WiFi you can connect to easily and see if your phone will work on an outside network without causing their network to crash. If they crash, then it might be the phone and require repair/replacement. If it works just fine, then you will know it's a setting in your home network that is the issue. Starbucks is a popular location for free WiFi, there may be others in your area. Make sure you are using your browser as a Wi-Fi browser to ensure it's not just running off your regular phone service internet.

If it turns out to be more likely a problem on your home network I would start looking at your network security settings to see how it's configured to react when a wireless device connection attempt is made. It appears it's set to shut down or lock down the network. Normally it would simply warn/alert you that an unknown device is connected or attempting to connect. I would check your router firewall settings as well as your computer firewall settings to be sure that your blackberry has permission to be on the network. Firewall security can be on a number of sources; on the router itself, in your anti-virus software, a third party firewall application, it could also be an included program on your PC. Any one of these may detect the device and have a reaction.

There is always the process of elimination too, disable everything except the router and the phone, try to establish a valid connection then begin re-introducing the other wireless devices.

Also check to be sure there are no duplicate IPs.

    Hope this helps

Is your home router enabled to accept multiple bands like 802.11b and 802.11g? I used to have a problem with a wireless laptop on my home network where it would disable my wifi. The laptop was only setup to use 802.11g but my router was set up to accept both b and g. It wasn't til I set up the router use only g did I fix the problem. Not sure why this happened on my network but it did fix the issue for me. Just a thought

I don't see how this could be a service provider issue. It has to be something with the router. I would log into the router, go to Admin tab, then go to Log. Look and see if the log gives us a clue as to what is really happening at the time. You might also want to log in to the router and go to the status page. While there, turn on WiFi in the Blackberry and watch the status. Based on my research, this is not a typical home router. It is actually a Cisco Small Business VPN class Wireless G router. Post back what the log says and we can hopefully guide you further.

Try changing the channel the router operates on? Mine is on channel 6, but I live in a dense, but low-income neighborhood, so there's little risk of interference.
