At Stony Brook experiential learning is everywhere, from studying biodiversity in Madagascar and experiencing paleoanthropological discoveries in Kenya's Turkana Basin, to filing stories in real time from the fabled Silk Road in China. Do research at nearby Brookhaven National Laboratory, working closely with physicists who are breaking new ground in our understanding of the origins of the universe. Board one of our seagoing vessels and conduct research through our nationally acclaimed Marine Science program.
Your education will be enriched by the lasting friendships you'll make with our culturally diverse students. Stony Brook's beautiful 1,040-acre campus is located on the North Shore of Long Island, midway between Manhattan and Montauk. A train station on campus makes it easy to travel to New York City, 60 miles away. We're also within a bike ride of parks, beaches and shopping. Our traditions include our wacky cardboard boat race, the Roth Pond Regatta, the ever-popular spring Strawberry Fest, wearing red while cheering on our champion Seawolves in a show of Stony Brook spirit and pride, and Campus Life Time, when academic activity pauses between 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. every Wednesday so students can enjoy events such as concerts, expos and give-aways.
With more than 200 majors, minors and combined-degree programs, Stony Brook is listed among the world's top 1% of universities by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Kiplinger names Stony Brook as one of the 35 best values in public colleges and universities.
We've got our eye on your future. More than 350 companies recruit on campus, and nearly 90% of our recent graduates are either employed or in graduate school.
