Entry criteria Your GCSE score will be used to decide which programme of study you are best suited to. The score is calculated by adding up the points gained for English Language, Maths and your four best other grades. Only GCSEs are included in the calculations. In order to take an A Level study programme you will need to achieve a minimum of 34 points and at least a grade 4 in English Language. The point score for vocational courses ranges from 26-30. Where specific courses have additional entry requirements we have indicated these in the following table. It may be possible for students with a point score lower than 34 to take a blended programme of A Levels and vocational courses.
Under the new system grade 4 is considered to be a ‘standard pass’ and grade 5 a ‘strong pass’. Although grade 5 in English Language and/or Maths is indicated as a specific entry requirement for most subjects, grade 4 might be accepted where the overall profile of the student suggests that the programme of study is appropriate 1

Vocational entry requirements Level 3 vocational programmes have a minimum entry requirement of 26 points (including a grade 4 in English and Maths). Qualifications other than GCSEs can indicate suitability for vocational study programmes and may therefore be taken into account. Level 2 vocational programmes require a minimum of four GCSEs at grade 3, preferably with a grade 3 or above in English and/or Maths. Excellent Facilities
The college has excellent facilities with outside spaces and sports areas. The £40 million state of the art accommodation includes a theatre, TV studio, dance studio, music studio, two new eating areas and superb subject teaching areas. All are characterised by large spaces, bright and comfortable student friendly areas and the latest equipment. All the college’s facilities are fully accessible.
Learning Resources Centre
The Library has a wide range of resources and study spaces spread over two levels. They are mostly silent study spaces, but we do have a group working area. In the hub we have 85 bookable PCs, which are available for independent work. There are laptops, iPads and headphones for student use within the Learning Resources Centre.
The Study
The Study is where you can get academic support and advice with all aspects of your work, including literacy, numeracy, ICT and study skills. You can pop in or book in advance for any kind of academic support you need, whatever subject you are studying. The team will always strive to support you.
Media Resources
We have a wide range of audio, video and photographic equipment for you to borrow, and stationery and computer consumables are available for purchase. The Library’s online catalogue is where you can search and reserve books. We also have a collection of online resources to help with your studies.

Exciting and varied enrichment programme
Enrichment activities ensure that learning and personal development extend beyond the classroom. The college provides a range of trips and visits both in this country and abroad.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (at Bronze, Silver and Gold) offers students the opportunity to take part in community volunteering and expeditions.
There are numerous theatre productions and musical performances as well as art, photography and media exhibitions and showcases.
LSC has a strong history of sporting success at local, regional and national level with the opportunity for students to take part in a broad range of sports activities.

Sport at Leyton Our sports provision at LSC is broad ranging, and as you might expect, we provide lots of opportunities for you to engage in competitive sport. However, our ethos is firmly focused on trying to involve all of our students in sport and physical activity. Whether you have an interest in competing, playing for fun, developing your fitness, volunteering, or leading and coaching, we are sure there is something for everyone in our diverse programme of activities. • Competitive Sport: Our competitive sports teams have a history of success in local, regional and national competitions. If you’re interested in playing sport competitively, you’ll benefit from expert coaching and access to a significant fixtures programme. Aim High Competitive Futures Programme
The Aim High Pathway is designed to support the most ambitious students for their futures. It will firstly stretch and challenge students in terms of their skills and thinking levels. Secondly, the Pathway will prepare students for applications to the most competitive courses, universities and careers. Students will be challenged academically to ensure that they achieve the very best results whilst also developing essential professional skills which will enhance their university applications and provide them with a competitive edge in terms of future employment opportunities.

EPQ- Extended Project Qualification: At LSC, students are given the opportunity to undertake the Extended Project Qualification. The EPQ is a 5000-word research project and designed to extend and develop your abilities beyond the A-level syllabus and prepare for university or a future career. An EPQ carries UCAS points and is valued at 50% of a full A Level in the UCAS tariff calculator. It is recognised by universities and employers and many universities make lower A-level offers to students undertaking an EPQ.

Student voice is at the core of the college’s provision and students have the opportunity to provide regular feedback on every part of their college experience. The student council and student panels meet regularly with the Principal,

Student Wellbeing & Safeguarding
Leyton Sixth Form College has a designated team of 8 permanent professionals to support students with welfare and support needs. Students have access to advice on their wellbeing, health, and financial issues. There is also dedicated support for young people in the care system with a key person to support them throughout their journey with us. The college has a counselling service to which young people can self-refer with two permanent counsellors. This provides ongoing one to one appointments, group and therapeutic work with various emotional issues. We have a wide range of resources available to us and are able to refer students to external agencies as and when necessary, there is also a school nurse on site fortnightly.
Preparing for University
Over 700 LSC students go on to university each year, from both A level and Vocational /BTEC study programmes. We have a strong track record of enabling students to gain places at a range of prestigious universities, art colleges and conservatoires. Students receive individual support and guidance in the application process and are thoroughly prepared for university life and study.
Financial Support
Leyton seeks to offer financial support to students who attend the college. There are a number of ways support is offered, the main being through the Bursary Fund which offers up to five payments across the year. The funding is to contribute towards the essential course costs and other related expenditure, such as travel to college, where costs are a barrier to learning. Students who are eligible for the bursary may also be eligible for free meals.
Learning Support
Students with a learning difference will have regular access to a named teacher from our experienced learning support team who will work with your subject teachers to support you. We have a wide range of expertise and currently support students with sensory impairments, autistic spectrum condition, general and specific learning difficulties, general health issues, mental health difficulties and mobility needs. All support is negotiated with students and takes full account of your views and preferred ways of learning. If you meet the criteria set by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), you may be eligible for a variety of access arrangements for examinations including extra time, a scribe or reader and/or modified papers.

Around 600 plus students go on to university each year from both A Level and Vocational courses. Many of these gain places at Russell Group universities to study a wide range of courses including Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering and Law. We also have a high number of students progressing to study at prestigious art and drama schools and conservatoires as well as securing competitive apprenticeships and employment places. High achieving students are supported through our Aim High programme, giving them access to mentoring, masterclasses and application advice from Russell Group universities including Oxford and Cambridge and Degree Apprenticeships.

College Careers Centre
There is a dedicated Careers Centre with a wide range of resources and our own qualified careers staff. All students are entitled to careers interviews and assistance with interview preparation and applications, to support their progression to higher education, apprenticeship, employment, or further training. Students are also encouraged to develop their employability and soft skills through work experience, volunteering and part-time work, and through attendance to careers and progression events and activities, internally and externally.

Application guidance - how to apply Application Form Step 1 Complete every section of the application form. You will be asked to provide the email address of the teacher who will be completing your reference. Missing information hinders our ability to process your application.
Step 2 An email will be sent to the person nominated to complete your application at your school. It would be a good idea to ask them to check through the application to ensure you have completed all parts.
Step 3 Please then submit your completed form. Please be sure to include your predicted GCSE grades.
Restarting/Continuing with studies
Costs
If you started elsewhere or continuing your studies with us, you will need to enclose a letter with your application form, explaining why you would like to do so. Your application must include an up to date reference from your last school or college.
There are no course fees if you are under 19 on August 31st prior to the start of your course and you are a ‘home student’ (that is, you have been resident in Britain or the EU for three years before your course begins). The college does not accept overseas applications.
