A federal NDP MP is resigning his seat next month to work with Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew.

Elmwood-Transcona MP Daniel Blaikie is stepping down effective March 31. He will begin work as Kinew’s senior advisor on intergovernmental affairs the following month.

“I am grateful to my constituents, my wife and my family for supporting me in serving my community as their MP,” Blaikie wrote in a news release.

“It’s been an honour to be a part of the federal NDP caucus and now, I have the privilege of joining Premier Kinew’s team in Manitoba.”

Blaikie was first elected in Elmwood-Transcona in 2015 and twice held onto his seat – in 2019 and 2021.

He’s served as finance critic, critic for employment, workforce development and democratic reform critic.
