Senior: Although small, the St. Mark's community is great as there are a myriad of ways to connect with others. One example is how the Seniors get little buddies (1st through 3rd graders) that they interact with throughout the year, and at the all School Christmas party, bring their little buddy in on their shoulders and let them put an ornament on the Christmas Tree. This is only one of the many ways that St. Mark's brings everyone in the community together. Freshman: Because I have been attending Cooper for a few years, I have had the ability to be a student in the Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School. I have greatly enjoyed my time in each of these schools because of the welcoming community and the caring teachers. Not only this, but Cooper offers numerous opportunities through clubs, internships, and different activities that allow students to expand their education beyond the campus. Junior: My school, the Awty International School, is the best school in the world. I love it so much, but sometimes it is stressful. As we are a full IB school, it is a rigorous process, meaning students do the full IB curriculum. However, we find time to balance everything with sports, events, and other activities. Awty is a small independent private school, so everyone is close and it is a good thing because we all share the same ambitions and goals. In my opinion, it is a great thing because we learn to experience other things while having the motivation and competition of others. It is a great community filled with amazing support, though over time it has been stressful, so teachers do not really know how to approach the stress, but it is not their fault. Other: I can’t believe the students of today! Complaining about 2 hrs of homework! What do they think college is like? Frat and Sorority parties all day? Tanning on Lake Austin? Give me a break. So entitled when they’ve earned nothing. Keystone is rigorous to PREPARE you for COLLEGE! As for the bitter person grinding her/his ax about new teachers, that just sounded sour grapes to me. Sophomore: From a highschooler's view, Hockaday is an amazing school that challenges its students in academics, as it is a college prep. school. If you cannot handle pressure and you do not know how to study, this school might not be the best choice for you. Even then, Hockaday has lots of resources devoted to de-stressing and mentally helping students. For example, there was a day last year were there were dogs brought to the school during our free period, and we could pet them and have fun with our friends. Hockaday is also very accepting to all identities and creates a safe space for people to express themselves through clubs, fine arts, and many more. They are very involved in celebrating diversity. The school encourages different interests, and they strive for students to be well-rounded. The students are also very driven. Senior: I started at SMH as a Freshman, and quickly realized I made the best decision possible. The opportunities I’ve gained like a marine biology course in Hawaii and a history experience in South Africa have been indescribably amazing. Parent: We have been at DIS for 2 years, starting in 1st grade after transferring from another international school. We love DIS! The facilities are amazing with classrooms built around an ultra-secure courtyard containing a soccer field and multiple playgrounds. There is a wealth of specialized teachers even at the younger ages (e.g. separate French, English, math, STEM, music, and gym teachers). We've been very happy with the level of academic rigor offered, and the engagement of our teachers. There is a counselor who regularly visits the classes and helps students navigate the drama of being a young kid. LUNCH IS INCLUDED IN TUITION, and it's both healthy and kid-friendly. The DIS community works hard to maintain a family-like atmosphere with on-campus events like playdates, carnivals, dances, etc. The after-school program is varied with classes in the arts, sciences, and athletics. Sophomore: I am a sophomore currently attending FWCD. So far on the academic side, things have been great. They are very challenging and require dedication outside of school as well, but it is worth it as it serves as great college preparation. Overall, the athletics are very well rounded and very competitive. I have gotten the chance to play 3 sports and have enjoyed dedicating part of my time to all of them. The food at FWCD is plenty enough to satiate anybody's needs, but should anybody want seconds, it is absolutely not disgraceful and even encouraged by some! Overall, there is a great variety of food to choose from everyday and I enjoy it. The faculty and staff are all incredibly supportive and are always steadfast and there for you whenever you need them. Senior: Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart is truly a one of a kind high school experience. The sister hood and the bond created amongst all grades levels k-12 is amazingly close. The community is constantly supportive and there for eachother in times of need. The teachers and staff are always supporting the students and have a healthy line of communication with their students. The lunches are always fresh and nutritious, and there are several different food options available to students no matter the dietary restrictions. The sports teams are competitive and are a good experience but are very athletically demanding. They are also very time demanding so multitasking with other activities can be difficult. Although there is some diversity in the school, I do think there could be more.
