Octavo. Publisher's orange cloth stamped in brown. Illustrated title page by an unidentified artist. Facsimile dust jacket.

FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY. INSCRIBED AND SIGNED on the front free endpaper recto by the author to his son less than two weeks after publication: "To John Coleman Burroughs, War Chief of the Mecca Avenue Indians, From his loving father, Chief Wet-Horse-Blanket, Tarzana Reservation, Sept 27, 1927." Also signed in ink on the front pastedown by John Coleman Burroughs's eldest son: "John Ralston Burroughs read this on June 11, 1955 [small cartoon drawing of a head]."

The present ERB inscription is illustrated in Zeuschner's Edgar Rice Burroughs: The Bibliography (2016) on page 513.

Condition: A few minor stains to cloth, corners rubbed, other minor edgewear, spine slightly leaned. Small hole to title page, not affecting text or illustration, textblock over-opened in a few places.

Accompanied by a letter of authenticity signed by Linda Burroughs, wife of Danton Burroughs, who was the son of John Coleman (Jack) Burroughs, and grandson of Edgar Rice Burroughs.
