Mon Laferte - Te juro que volveré (English Translation) Lyrics
Just turned seventeen years old and a tough past
The pasta, the umbrellas and the streets had visited her
But she decides to go out and find a life
At twenty-four, suitcase in hand, she left
Her life is finally going to change
New country, get to work
And she swore to his mother that she was going to buy a house for her
[Chorus]
I will be back
I swear I will come back
I will be back
I'm going to come look for you
I will be back
I swear I will come back
I will be back
She promised to return to her mothеr
[Verse 2]
After eight years living illеgally
They gave her her first big check for watching her sing
Every day she worked hard, she beat the life
But her ma went to heaven before seeing her succeed
[Chorus]
I will be back
I swear I will come back
I will be back
I'm going to come look for you
I will be back
I swear I will come back
I will be back
He promised to return to her mother
I don't know if I will return
I don't know if I will return
I don't know if I will return
I don't know if I will return
I don't know if I will return
I don't know if I will return
About
“I swear that I will return” is the second song from AUTOPOIÉTICA, the eighth studio album by Mon Laferte.
It was also the first song previewed prior to the album’s release.
It is a cumbia rebajada, electronically manipulated on purpose to have a slower tempo and a deeper tone in Mon’s voice.
It is a reflection on the promise she made to her mother and her grandmother about returning to Chile after trying her luck in Mexico.
The song is filled with references to Mon’s life prior to her departure from Chile and her experience as an independent artist in Mexico. In her own words:
This is a song that talks about my story as a migrant, it is a story of failure, I promise my grandmother that I will bring her with me when things go well for me and I don’t succeed, my grandmother dies first. I thought it was nice to do it with this voice that is not pretty
In the song’s visualizer, Mon is inside a tomb, being symbolically buried, with the flags of her two nations, Chile and Mexico; while outside her several people throw flowers at her and dance to the rhythm of the lowered cumbia.
