Stopped here after a review in trip advisor. Although small, we enjoyed our visit--a lot of history, artifacts and friendly, informative volunteer who told us about the building, area and the collection. As a"Bonanza" fan, I was delighted to see the framed photo of Dan Blocker (HossCartwright) who was a real life high school teacher in Sonora before becoming an actor.

When we walked in, the lady there greeted us and was very friendly and obviously interested in sharing with us the highlights of the museum. Since Sonora is a pretty small town (about 3,000), we were the only people in the museum at the time of our visit, so she gave us a very informative little personal tour, with lots of fascinating little details about the museum displays, town history, etc.

We spent a very informative 90 minutes in this museum. Our guide was Nancy. She is a wealth of information. This museum is filled with lots of artifacts that help you really understand how things were 100 to 150 years ago. We were really surprised to find out that "Hoss" from Bonanza used to be a high school teacher in this little town of Sonora. Nancy also gave us a tour of the old jail.

This is a good side stop if you are in the area. Volunteers are friendly and very knowledgeable. The old ice house is an interesting backdrop for this small yet eclectic collection.

I can't begin to tell you how fun it was to meet the ladies that run this Museum. They have a vested interest in this town and its history. One of the ladies actually has family that has gone back five generations in this County. You get a real, up close and personal view of the area. They give a tour of the old jail as well. Absolutely worth the time

We visited the ranch house museum on a Wednesday as I think it is closed Monday & Tuesday, the lady in charge told u s about butch Cassidy and how some of his gang tried to rob the bank, he was shot by the local sheriff and now is buried in the local cemetery.

From the outside it doesn’t appear to be very big... but what it lacks in size ...it makes up for in local history. Wonderful museum to spend some time exploring the history of the area... I wish we could have spent more time here... Adults and children alike will love seeing the unique exhibits this museum has to offer.

This museum is worth the stop. Take time to read the explanations of the exhibits. There is a framed gun which killed Will Carver, a famous outlaw. If you want to visit his grave in the Sonora Cemetery (on the north side of Interstate 10], you will have to get directions, as Mr. Carver’s name is not on his tombstone. This was apparently done to avoid desecration of the grave. The deputy who killed him, J.L. Davis, is buried only a few rows over in the same cemetery.

The museum also contains a lot of antiques from the early days of Sutton County. Step back in time to see how people lived in the past.

The gift shop items are pretty generic, and don’t relate to Sonora history.

Went because we are "stuck" in Sonora with RV tbls. But would have been worth the time and money to stop and anyway.

Eclectic collection of local historical artifacts. 'Elaine' showed us around and was a font of info and stories. Who knew....that Bonanza's Dan Blocker started as a school drama teacher in Sonora?

We'll worth the $4.00 per adult and an hour or so of your time.

Really disappointed...stopped by for a quick look since the website says it is free and the brochure sitting at the front door also says it's free. It's NOT free. We were approached at the door and told it was $4 for adults. Did not stay. They might have gotten a donation as requested on both the website and the brochure but instead they got nothing. I said something about the brochure says its free and the comment back was those are old brochures. Well get new ones printed or put a sticker over the free information and change your website.
