The Criterion Collection is a continuing series of important classic and contemporary films on home video.
Just finished The Face of Another earlier today. One thing I didn't understand
There are scenes and quick moments scattered throughout the film that were oddities, but the one that stuck with me, was Dr. Hira's wife. His nurse makes repeated comments that she's "listening", there's a brief second which I believe is her only moment on screen (she mentions dinner is ready), and then towards the end, in his office, that bizarre open door with a close up of someone's hair.
Is there something more here, like a relation to the paranoia Mr. Okuyuma feels towards his wife and how she may feel about Hira's nurse, or am I looking too deeply into one aspect of a film that I otherwise thoroughly enjoyed?
