Kirsten Dunst really doesn't remember much about the plans Sam Raimi had for Spider-Man 4. However, she recognizes how vast the Spider-Man franchise is, making it still possible that she could one day return as Mary Jane.

Dunst previously played Mary Jane opposite Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker in Raimi's Spider-Man movie trilogy. There were plans to make a fourth film, but the project fell through before production could start. Maguire returned as Peter in the crossover movie Spider-Man: No Way Home, but there was no appearance from Mary Jane. In a video interview with British GQ, Dunst shared how she can't recall anything specific about Spider-Man 4 while leaving the door open for a future return.

Spider-Man: Gwen Stacy Strikes a Deal With Doctor Octopus

Marvel's preview of Ultimate Spider-Man #5 reveals Gwen Stacy making a surprising deal that will see the rise of one of the infamous Doc Ock.

"I remember, we were going to make another Spider-Man 4," she said. "I think we were, I can't remember, to be honest. We'll see what happens. I mean, that universe is very open. It's anything. So, for me to be in a Spider-Man movie again, or something, is possible, I guess."

Kirsten Dunst Would Have Returned for Spider-Man: No Way Home

These comments follow previous remarks made by Dunst concerning Spider-Man: No Way Home. She said that she would have been up for appearing in that movie alongside Maguire, but that nobody asked her about returning. As noted by Dunst, she could still appear in an upcoming Spider-Man movie, whether that's Raimi's Spider-Man 4 or another project exploring the multiverse. However, she's also shared her doubts that Spider-Man 4 should really be made, or if it's best to leave the trilogy alone.

X-Men '97 Creator Addresses Possible Spider-Man Appearance in Season 1

X-Men '97 creator Beau DeMayo coyly responds to a fan asking if Spider-Man will make an appearance in the animated revival before Season 1 ends.

"I don’t think we need that. I don’t know. It was so long ago," she said in a recent IndieWire interview. "I just don’t know how they would, what the story would be. I don’t know. It seems like … I don’t know! It would really depend on the script, and also, I don’t know, you’re really putting yourself out there in a way that … let’s maybe leave things when they were good. You know what I mean?"

Sam Raimi has also cast some doubt about making a fourth Spider-Man film. Amid rumors of the canceled movie getting revived, Raimi told CBR that he hasn't been contacted about any such project.

"Well, I haven't heard about that yet," Raimi said. "I did read that, but I'm not actually working on it yet. I mean, Marvel and Columbia are so successful with current Spider-Man [movies], and the track there, and I don't know that they're going to go back to me, and say, 'Well, folks, we can also tell that story!' I'm not sure, but I love all the new Spider-Man movies. I loved Spider-Man: No Way Home. It was really, super powerful seeing Tobey [Maguire] again in it."

Meanwhile, Dunst can nowadays be seen in her starring role in A24's new movie Civil War.
