Can't really understand why this release has not been inserted in Discogs. This lp was named the Best Album of 1973 by Rolling Stone magazine (back in the old days when Rolling Stone knew something).
This album holds its own along with the Pretty Things' "Parachute" as one of their best. The Pretty Things have always produced excellent and interesting music, although their albums are a bit uneven.
But this is not the case with "Freeway Madness", which features some of the best rock and roll of its time, much thanks to the writing of Phil May and Pete Tolson. Tolson also shines with some brilliant lead guitar licks. It's a shame he didn't stick with the band longer. Phil May's growling vocals are excellent here. Although devoid of the psychedelic trippiness of "Parachute", "Freeway Madness" more than delivers on straight-ahead rock and roll. And the sloppy little blues jam "Another Bowl?", featuring more brilliance from Tolson is a mini-classic. Along with "S.F. Sorrow" and "Parachute", "Freeway Madness" is a necessity for any Pretty Things fan.
