Longtime Boston resident and father of Academy Award-nominated actor Mark Wahlberg Donald E. Wahlberg died Tuesday in Dorchester.

Mr. Wahlberg served in the Army during the Korean War.

He was a longtime member of Teamsters Local 25.

The Wahlberg family acquired nationwide notoriety in the 1980s and ’90s with the success of its two youngest sons, Donnie and Mark.

Both started as singers, Donnie as a member of New Kids on the Block and Mark as a rap musician with Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.

Later, Donnie starred in many films, including the locally made “Southie” in 1998 and the Steven Spielberg/Tom Hanks-produced miniseries “Band of Brothers” in 2001.

Mark is best known for his critically acclaimed role in 2006’s Best Picture Winner “The Departed” and as producer of HBO’s “Entourage,” which is loosely based on his experiences in Hollywood.

Mr. Wahlberg is survived by his former wife, Alma E. (Donnelly) Wahlberg of Weymouth; three daughters, Michelle Donnelly of Florida, Tracey A. Marcarelli of Holbrook and Donna Nelson of Rockland; seven sons, Arthur E. Donnelly of Weymouth, Paul J. of Hingham, James M. of Florida, Robert G. of Dorchester, Donald E. and Mark R., both of California, and Scott of Holbrook; three brothers, Robert of California, Archie of Quincy and Alfred of North Carolina; a sister, Donna Black of Quincy; 17 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret Church of Blessed Mother Theresa Parish Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Dorchester.
