The American steakhouse is an iconic restaurant institution. We’d wanted to tell that story for years, but waited until we had the skill, talent and ability to execute it properly, and the right space to be our canvas, an important corner in Little Italy, a neighborhood where we have deep roots. We brought an almost academic appreciation for steakhouse history and tradition to Born & Raised, while trying to stay relevant and authentic to ourselves and our city. Our dry-aged beef pays tribute to earlier, earthier, pre-government grading practices and is the centerpiece of a meal best savored at a slow pace. The scene is just as sizzling as the steaks at this Little Italy stunner. Born & Raised turns the old-school steakhouse genre on its head, displaying photos of rap legends in the all-gold, super-glam dining room. There are steakhouse faithfuls, plus carts that prep vintage cocktails tableside. The result is an OTT steakhouse fit for the highest of high rollers.

This place used to be outstanding. Now it's meh. We ordered: - beef tartar and the flavor was overpowered by caper juice. This dish used to be assembled on a cart next to your table; now, it comes out in the shape of a flattened ground beef patty with a chicken egg yolk on the top and then scattered potato chips on the top. It looked sloppy and lazy. The meat appeared to be prepped ahead of time, which is suspected of breeding bad bugs. - the porter house was cooked correctly but lacked flavor. To combat the lack of flavor they give you dipping sauces. To me, if you have to add sauce to a fine cut of meat that is over $5.00 an ounce, that meat must be of inferior quality. This place used to be worth the price but not anymore. At least the staff was good.

This has become one of our favorite steakhouses in San Diego! Every single aspect of our experience was phenomenal! From the hostess to our food, hands down one of the best in San Diego and my husband and I have high standards when it comes to fine dining. Every penny spent was well worth it! We can't wait to return!

It was our first time at this restaurant celebrating my birthday and we love everything about it our waiter Tom the hostess the food love love the food so delicious excellent superb service!!!

We have made it a tradition to come here for our wedding anniversary and each time that we come, they do not disappoint. The food was amazing and our server was super cool and went above and beyond to make our night special.

We were satisfied but not “wowed”, especially after all of the good things we have heard. I miss when steak houses had the best food and the best service and you would feel ok paying the high prices because the food and experience was worth it. Our experience did not feel that way. We had a reservation but were not seated for over 30 minutes. We had to go back to the host stand and ask. Our server felt like he was constantly trying to upsell us. We sat outside upstairs which has a lovely ambiance but the food got cold quickly. It would be a good idea to serve on warm plates upstairs, especially the steak. We ordered the bone marrow snails, special sashimi, a ribeye, scallops, the broccolini, and dirty hash browns. All were yummy but we will likely not go back.
