Prince and Pauper serves a reliable, mostly unchanging prix fixe menu (including good vegetarian options): choice of appetizer, fresh salad (definitely ask for the extra blue cheese!), and entree (dessert extra: highly recommend the ultra-creamy maple creme brûlée with just the right amount of burn on the crust). Though not as creative as the Lincoln Inn and not as refined as Simon Pearce, what you get is an upscale meal that won't break the bank. On our night out there were several mistakes: our reservation got a little confused, dishes got mixed up, and a water glass was spilt--but everything was rectified in short order and with good cheer! We enjoy the Front Parlor (as opposed to the back bar area): old-time Vermont decor surrounded by paintings for sale. Amy is a terrific server--friendly, engaging, and efficient.

I love this place and just realized I have never reviewed it. The food is always impeccable. The service is beyond great. They make us always feel special (we usually go on birthdays and special occasions). Ohhhh and the cocktails! Thank you all for what you do so well.

I unfortunately found the food incredibly average. Nothing I ordered was that great. I was shocked to find out from my husband the next day that we spent $270 on 2 meals and 1 alcoholic beverage. Not worth it. If you frequently dine at top restaurants you will not be impressed by the food at all. I will give credit for the ambiance and good service.

The ambiance was warm and cozy, there were 8 of us including a 12 and 11 year old. The server was friendly, the artwork was nice, looked to be all local art which was nice. I had the filet, and it was really good, I cleaned my plate. The kids had spaghetti and loved it! I recommend this cozy restaurant with great food!

My husband and I enjoyed a fantastic 3 course dinner. I am so glad we made reservations as this is a small restaurant & they book up fast. My husband had the Pasta appetizer & the Eggplant Napoleon for his entree. I had the stuffed Dates appetizer & the Cod entree. I only wish my pictures had smell o vision because the food was excellent. The fresh bread & House Salad was very fresh & super tasty. My husband had a Raspberry Margarita & I had the Not So French Martini. For our dessert we took home the SnickersBar which we enjoyed the next day.

We were a ladies group of 10 from a car club visiting VT for shopping, driving, leaf peeping, nature viewing, and socializing. There is a quaint bar full of character and charm as you enter the restaurant. The Prince & Pauper accommodated our group, effortlessly. The service was impeccable, with a variety of food choices from the price fixe menu. Cocktails were creative and they offer a good selection of wines. The duck magret was delicious with crispy skin and tender meat. I highly recommend this restaurant when you are in the Woodstock VT, area.

In town to celebrate our 20th anniversary, this is where we went for our "fancy-nancy" dinner out. It did not disappoint. I knew to make a reservation well in advance, which is key. (see ** below) Items ordered were the date appetizer, spinach/mushroom soup, salads, cod, duck, and profiteroles. I am not exaggerating when I say we ate EVERY SINGLE BITE. The meal, atmosphere and service were superb. Worth every penny of this fine dining experience. **Food is a commodity in VT during peak seasons. Make your reservations well in advance or you will scramble and suffer (like us). We are making do, but had no idea that walk-on meal service was so limited. Consider yourself warned.**

We had a really lovely time! The team were wonderful about keeping us on a cancellation list and we were able to get in last minute. The restaurant was completely full in short order. The team are absolutely so kind and accomodating. We thouroughly enjoyed our meal (trout special and lamb) and had a great cocktail. Thank you! We will be back.

My new favorite restaurant! A true farm to table experience where the freshest vegetables, VT artisanal cheeses, and creative chef. Get a table outside if you can. Wonderful service. Can’t wait to return.

Was fancy. It was ok. You know for this price I want a meal to take my breath away or at least make me want to come back to try it again. Didn’t feel this way. If you have money to burn and $240 for a bottle of wine is nothing to you go ahead. If you like value for your money I’ve eaten far better meals. Atmosphere was old and dusty. I will say our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. For just fish and meat we left far more for a tip than I felt the meal was worth.

Wonderful meal and great atmosphere. We have been here several times with groups of 9-11 people. The restaurant is accommodating, comfortable and the food is good. Our group had muscles, quinoa veggie souls and the salmon appetizers and all were excellent. Entrees tried were cod, bass, duck, eggplant and every one was excellent. For dessert we have the German chocolate cake, cream brûlée and lemon pound cake-all delish!.

Good but not great, value for money not realized. We wanted to love this place based on reviews we had read and the glowing recommendation from Woodstock inn. We just couldn’t. Service was good, but they ran out of the only vegetarian starter right after I ordered. I ended up having the beef empanadas which were ok. Filet mignon was my main and the steak itself was very good (after sending it back for the right temperature) but they serve it with potatoes that resembled Mac and cheese. They had no other potato option so I ate it with white rice which was a bit unusual but not bad. Dessert was not that great. I had the cheesecake which I usually love. Then the server disappeared for a while. They were clearing preparing for the next day and she was gone for a while when we were expecting dessert and the check. Overall it was not as great as I hoped and I don’t think I’ll be back as a result.

Disappointed with our first meal at Prince and the Pauper. Ambiance was nice and service was very good but the food quality was underwhelming, especially with the cost. Salad was very simple. I had the salmon which was interesting in its presentation but my husband was very disappointed in his undercooked brook trout. The crème brûlée was fair. Would not go back given the cost and quality of the food.

We met old friends for dinner. What a friendly welcome and super service. I had their pâté with crusty bread and cornichons and sautéed onions. Fabulous For my entrée I ordered a medium rare lamb en croûte. Perfectly cooked and presented. The meal was pris fixé at $75/peron plus wine and tip, my half was $240.. so it’s not cheap but it is worth it!
