I supported this Commission proposal to amend the ‘Medical Devices Regulation’ (MDR) and the ‘In Vitro Diagnostic Medical Devices Regulation’ (IVDR) so that the rollout of the European database on medical devices (EUDAMED) would be extended, after concerns were raised that the database would not be ready on time.
I voted in favour of establishing this body, which sets a single framework for cooperation on common ethical standards.
It is important that in future, the remit of the body is strengthened and its findings made public.
I abstained on this report as although areas like multilingualism and accessibility do need investment I cannot justify an overall increase above the rate of inflation at such a difficult time.
