Core biomedical courses provide you with a solid foundation for success in medically-related professional degree programs that could lead to a variety of careers. People-centred health care is a focus of the program. You’ll take courses in bioethics and sociology of health that will help you understand health care from a wider perspective. Plus, you'll be prepared for the MCAT.

First-year courses cover the foundational sciences in biology and chemistry, as well as math, and psychology. In second year, courses are a mixture of basic science and medical science courses, including cell biology, organic chemistry, microbiology and physiology. You’ll also learn about the sociology of health, illness, and healing – the theory and practice of medicine, how our society addresses health problems, healthcare from the perspective of the ill, and healthcare in Canada.

In the third and fourth year of the program, you'll focus on the medical sciences in courses such as anatomy, pathology and pharmacology, with a course in bioethics that examines current ethical dilemmas faced by those in the health field and a core course in epidemiology. You'll also have the opportunity to take courses in your personal areas of interest, based on a list provided by the program.
