68% Tomatometer 22 Reviews 91% Audience Score 500+ Ratings Starting over isn't easy, especially for small-town guy John Nolan, who, after a life-altering incident, is pursuing his dream of becoming an LAPD officer. As the force's oldest rookie, he's met with skepticism from some higher-ups who see him as just a walking midlife crisis. If he can't keep up with the young cops and the criminals, he'll be risking lives -- including his own -- but if he can use his life experience, determination and sense of humor to give him an edge, he may just become successful in this new chapter of his life. What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Nathan Fillion's reliably likable presence makes The Rookie worth tuning in, even if the show around him isn't particularly memorable.

Emily St. James Vox It's kind of fun to have a series more interested in building out a large ensemble of characters, where the cases are secondary to the characters bouncing off each other. Oct 16, 2018 Full Review Chris Barton Los Angeles Times It's a breezy drama that doesn't demand much from the viewer, but Fillion's easy charm is tough to dismiss. Oct 16, 2018 Full Review Ben Travers indieWire Kicking off the series with a laughable setup is never good. Rated: C+ Oct 16, 2018 Full Review Malcolm Hopwood Stuff.co.nz The Rookie is police procedural on steroids. Mar 29, 2019 Full Review James Croot Stuff.co.nz Unfortunately, there was more than one really clunky character revelation which will change the nature of the show going forward... But if you're a fan of Fillion (and he has plenty of them) then your new weekly dose of appointment-viewing has arrived. Jan 28, 2019 Full Review Dustin Rowles Pajiba There's not a lot to it, but as background viewing, it's both easy on the brain and the eyes, which in a way makes it the ideal procedural, great to watch while washing dishes, making dinner, or napping. That's both a knock against it and not. Oct 19, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

American M So good, great intro to the characters, picked the right stars, and already chuckling/laughing, great season 10/10 would recommend Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/23/24 Full Review Audience Member Loved it well worth a watch but unfortunately just going downhill rapidly from now on. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/12/24 Full Review Chavel D Worst police show on T.V. As a former police officer of 20 yrs, 14 of those years working as a FTO (Field Training Officer) this show sucks and the acting is even worse. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 04/05/24 Full Review Audience Member this is a very good season to start of a TV show , I really enjoyed the first season, the action was fantastic ,every character is different but they kind of all match together and it just makes fun to see them work together and it also just makes fun to watch it , the show , shows how it is as a cop , I dont know if anything about it is true or if it has some differences to an actual job as police officer , but just to watch it , it shows that it has good sides but that you also have to work with people you dont like or they dont like you , but even tho the main character officer Nolan was hated by the sergeant at first , I liked it to see how they got along and built up a kind of good relationship , the action is fantastic and I absolutely like the shots you see on the body cams by the officer but sometimes there were some bad cgi effects as an example the gun shots really looked unrealistic , but other than that it is very fun and like I said an excellent start into a tv show. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review Lachon J I find this show to be very entertaining. Fantastic show. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/05/24 Full Review Doug W This show was recommended to me because I watched Castle which I thoroughly enjoyed. I binged the first season and I'm half way through Season 2. It's been terrific so far and I highly recommend it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/03/24 Full Review Read all reviews
