From what I’ve seen, I can say that Chegg Tutors is a legitimate opportunity. You can really make some money doing online tutoring to students from different countries.
There has never been a problem with people not getting paid for rendering the tutoring service. However, there are several issues with this opportunity.
One of the issues is that the income potential of this opportunity is not really high due to the lack of lessons available. Another issue is that some students can be problematic and there’s nothing you can really do about it.
I’ll discuss these issues in more detail as we progress further in this review of Chegg Tutors.

Chegg Tutors is designed for two types of people with one being students who are having a hard time with their school work and assignments.
The other type are people who are looking for an opportunity to make some money online. If you are a student, the company provides you an opportunity to get a tutor to help you with your studies.

You can also choose the tutor that you want, as Chegg Tutors will provide you with a profile of available tutors that can help you with the subject you are having a problem with.
If you are someone who is looking for an opportunity to make money online, then this company can help you with that.
They hire people to be their online tutors, helping students with their school work. You don’t need to be good at a lot of subjects since the students that will be assigned to you are those who only need help in the subject you’re good at.

There’s no requirement to be online at certain times, as you can sign in anytime you are free. When a student is online and needs a tutor, the website will just match them with the right tutor that is also online.
You get to teach with live chat in a virtual classroom setting. There will be times when you will teach via text, audio, or video. It will depend on what the student wants. The site also allows you to share files to students.
Chegg Tutors pay $20 per hour of the tutoring session. But there will be times that the session won’t even last an hour. In this case, you’ll get paid for the total number of time you spent tutoring.
So if your session lasts for 30 minutes, that session will be worth $10 so you get $10. Now, the minimum amount you can earn here is $1.67, which is equivalent to a 5-minute tutoring session.
Even if the student hangs up at around the 2-minute mark or less, you will still get paid the minimum. You will be paid per week, and Chegg will just compute the total hours you spent tutoring.
The cut off will be every Wednesday at 7:05 AM PDT. You get paid via PayPal every Thursday.
Now, there are ways to boost your earnings. One of the ways is to tutor a subject that is in high demand. The company offers bonuses to tutors who teach these subjects.
It’s also important that you have a high rating, as this will increase your chances of being selected by students to tutor them.
You should also try to be online during midterms and finals, as this is the period where a lot of students will be requiring tutors to help them.
Lastly, Chegg Tutors also has a referral program, where you can earn $10 for every tutor that you refer to the company. You get the money once your referral is accepted and they complete their first session.
As mentioned above, one of the main issues that people have with Chegg Tutors is that the income potential is not that high.
The pay is decent, but the problem stems from the lack of opportunities to teach. A lot of the tutors complained that they don’t get enough opportunities for tutoring sessions.
It seems like there are more tutors than students, which can explain the limited opportunities. There are also complaints that some students can be rude and problematic.

What I Like about Chegg Tutors

- The first thing that I like about Chegg Tutors is that the application process is very simple and getting accepted is not hard, provided you can prove your credentials. There’s no need to fill in long application forms or answer a lot of question. The company will only require several questions that you need to answer and some proof of your credentials to be accepted.
- I also like that Chegg Tutors is available worldwide, which means people from all over the world can try to apply to be an online tutor to earn some side income.
- It’s also good that Chegg Tutors pay via PayPal, this makes it easier to get your money instead of waiting for a few days for a bank transfer.
What I Dislike about Chegg Tutors
Of course, there are also things that I didn’t really like about Chegg Tutors, which I’ll discuss here.
- The first thing that I didn’t like about Chegg Tutors is that the opportunity to get tutoring sessions is very limited. This has been the main complaint of a lot of the tutors in the company. The problem seems to stem from having too many tutors compared to students. It would be great if the company could get more students to have more opportunities for their tutors.
- Another thing that I didn’t like is that Chegg Tutors doesn’t provide an option for promotion to allow the tutors to earn more. It would have been great if they have some sort of ranking to allow tutors to increase their earnings per hour to offset the lack of students, especially during certain times of the day or certain periods of the year.
- I also don’t like that the students have too much control when it comes to the fate of the tutors. Leaving a bad review or feedback will greatly affect a tutor’s rankings and reputation, which could greatly impact the opportunities for tutoring sessions.
Do I Recommend Chegg Tutors?
After learning more about Chegg Tutors and what they can really offer, I say that it is an opportunity that is worth checking out.
Though the income opportunity from this company is not that high due to the limited tutoring sessions, it is still worth checking out as an opportunity for a side income.
The flexible schedule and decent hourly pay could possibly allow you to earn about $50 to $100 a week if you are lucky enough with the schedule and if you are a tutor of a subject of high demand.
Just be wary that you may have to contend with some rude students, who could affect your rankings and lower your chance of being selected as a tutor.
Other than that, this opportunity could provide you with a decent way to make some money online.
