Tame Impala's Julien Barbagallo talks "Les Grands Brûlés", Innerspeaker livestream, & more

You know him as the drummer from Tame Impala, but in case you're not familiar with his solo work, Julien Barbagallo has just shared his 4th studio album, Les Grands Brûlés. We got the incredibly unique opportunity to speak with the artist regarding the record. Watch our interview below.

Releasing on May 14th, 2021, Julien Barbagallo is all set to release an exceptionally produced record titled Les Grands Brûlés. In our interview with the Tame Impala drummer, we covered a variety of topics that covered the process behind creating the record, a behind the scenes on the recent Innerspeaker livestream, and how all of his music comes about.

If this happens to be your first foray into the music of Julien Barbagallo, you’re starting at a wonderful point in his musical history. As singles released for the record such as “Regarde” and “Debout” were released, the overall sound and style of the album quickly showed to show its form. Taking more of an electronic and digital approach to the record, there aren’t going to be as many guitars featured like on his past records Danse dans les ailleurs or Grand chien.

On the production side of things, Julien broke it down for us and let us know that he took care of everything on his own, but had a helping hand on the mixing portion from his Tame Impala bandmate, Kevin Parker. While Parker has remixed some of his songs in the past and lent help on the production side, everything turned out so wonderful here that his help wasn’t really needed. With so much downtime and artist’s having time on their hands, it’s always nice to see works like this come out and turn into future masterpieces.

Now while we’d obviously prefer you watch our full interview with the artist, the real hope here is that you dig into the music as soon it comes out. There’s just been so much great music to come out in 2021 already, but Les Grands Brûlés has already proved to be a contender for Album of the Year. There’s so many versatile styles, genres, and moments that have instantly stood out. Even for the non-French speaker, it’s not overly difficult to resonate with the emotion and message coming across.

With all that being said, this is an album and artist that we highly recommend. Please do yourselves a favor and listen and follow along by clicking the important links below. Enjoy!
