Chalicotherium was a large Oligocene-Early Pliocene species of Chalicothere. These were the typical species that is most well understood. They stood 1.8 (females) to 2.6 (males) metres tall, and weighed 700 kilograms. They lived 25-5 Million Years Ago, and though are portrayed in Walking With Beasts to be the case, actually the species is a little older than 25 Million Years Ago, by several million years. They were bizarre herbivores, evolutionary products of the drastic climate changes which had killed of 1 in 5 species at the end of the Eocene Period. Two main types of Chalicotheres existed; knuckle-walkers and hoofed. Chalicotherium was the quintessential knuckle-walker.
