Robert 'Bob' Lantos was born on June 8, 1930. His one brother, Ray, was six years older. Parents Theresa and Joe were both registered pharmacists who came from their native Hungary to settle in Western PA in the early 1920s and ran a chain of drug stores through the early 1960s.
Dad entered the University of Michigan in 1948, graduating with both undergraduate and graduate degrees in pharmacy in 1954. He took a position in a hospital pharmacy at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston TX, then relocated to Austin as head of pharmacy at U of T's teaching hospital in the early 60s after marrying Judith Bloom, daughter of Sally and Meyer Bloom, in Johnstown while filling scripts at the pharmacy in his parent's Johnstown drug store. Dad's appointment was head of pharmacy at U of T's teaching hospital. In 1967 he became head of pharmacy at the Shands Teaching Hospital for the Univ. of Florida, Gainesville. Lantos served as president of the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists in 1972, traveling the world that year on behalf of ASHP. He relocated to Brookline MA to serve as head of the hospital pharmacy department at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital with a teaching appointment at the Mass. College of Pharmacy. Lantos' final relocation was to Flushing NY with his appointment as Dean of Continuing Pharmacy Education at Long Island University, Brooklyn NY.
He is survived by his wife Sandra and children Steve of Brookline MA and James of Waltham MA.
