Be prepared for an almost total lack of plot
I want to issue a warning for viewers in the 21st century, who are used to fast-paced movies. This is NOT fast-paced. In fact, there’s hardly ever any plot at all. The movie is rather short (one hour and 11 minutes). It seems the producers stretched it out as far as possible by filling at least half the movie of shots of nudist people sitting around and relaxing in the sun (always shot from the back or above the waist). The title is “Diary of a Nudist,” but there’s no diary, and nothing to chronicle if there was a diary.
There’s only one element of conflict, which arises towards the end of the movie. And it is resolved rather suddenly. Too suddenly, in fact, to be believable. There’s no way that the main female lead would quickly fall in love with the main male lead after being angry with him for the last half of the movie. Perhaps they could have added another conflict to propel the story, such as how the public reacts when the reporters are “outed” as nudists.
Also, I wanted to mention that the main actress always looks like she’s disgusted, in every scene! She hardly ever smiles. And when she does, she immediately goes right back to frowning again after half a second. She looks like she doesn’t enjoy acting. It makes it hard to sympathize with her. And the main male lead’s character doesn’t seem very happy until the end, either.
And they both speak quite slowly until the last conflict arises. It doesn’t help that the director seems to always zoom in on the person reacting to what’s being said rather than the person speaking. So, there is not a lot of acting (with lines) in this movie.
