Every Playboy Issue, With No Staples in the Way

Bondi Digital — the company that took more than 80 years of New Yorker issues and converted them into a browsable, searchable, full-page archive on CD-ROM and a portable hard drive—has added a new magazine title to its list of clients. Playboy Cover to Cover is a portable hard drive that contains every issue from the first, in 1953, to December 2009. It costs $300.

Once the drive is connected, a viewing application is downloaded and installed on a PC. The interface is clean and simple — readers can browse by issue, read table of contents and search for keywords across all issues. Each month’s copy of Playboy is displayed in its entirety — including the advertisements that ran in each issue.

The Playboy content takes up only about 20GB on the 250GB drive, leaving plenty of room for updates, as well as files of your own. Of course, that could get tricky: Purchasers of the drive should pay close attention when launching that PowerPoint presentation for the big client — one errant click and, instead of sales projections, your audience could be looking at Miss March ’72.
