Weasley is Our King

Discussion

I’m simping for Ronald Bilius Weasley at the moment, can we get a Ron appreciation moment? What are peoples favorite analyses, quotes, headcanons, etc?

I’ll start- I’m comparing him to Wormtail and how he was always the “overshadowed friend” but he would never have betrayed Harry that way. It takes a lot of strength of character to get over the insecurities he had, it’s very realistic and relatable.

That’s why Slytherins all sing “Weasley is Our King”

"Can I have a look at Uranus too, Lavender?"

I knew I wouldn't have to look far for this one. Pure class. Weasley is our King!

Lol I knew this was coming, I was waiting for this comment!

The thing about Ron is that his loyalty and his fundamentally good heart wins over his insecurities and jealousy.

He is always insecure about his place in his family, and yearns for his own place in the sun, and yet he willingly accepts being the friend of a celebrity, even though he knows that even in school and away from the family, he will be shunted aside, outshined by his friend.

And he is a very good friend to Harry. He guides him through the wizarding world, opens up his home and his family for Harry. He is always there for him. And when they fought, Ron made it up eventually.

Omg you were downvoted for stating canon facts

Yesss exactly! I love that others have the same opinion that I had, and can articulate it so much more effectively!

very realistic and relatable

This is Ron to me, boiled down into the most pure description I can think of for him.

I loved Ron right off the bat and one of my favorite quotes of his is when he is doing his "spell" to Scabbers.

"sunshine, daisy, butter mellow, turn this stupid fat rat yellow!”

It's just so relatable. Like a simple spell that most of us would think of or one of our siblings would fool us with. It shows us who he is so plainly right away and I love it so much. Harry is our window into the magic world so to speak because he grew up as a Muggle, like us. His inexperience gives the author the opportunity to be creative and "educational" about the world we are diving into, but we aren't going to be the "chosen one" or have an epic rivalry with the greatest dark wizard of all time. In reality, we are Ron. I believe Ron is how most of us would actually be in this world.

Weasley is absolutely our King!

Yes omg this such a perfect explanation of how I feel. Dude I grew up with HP and thought I was Hermione, but realized I’m Ron and that’s totally fine with me!

FFS, one should never compare Ron to Wormtail. EVER.

From Snape's worst memory : "Wormtail gasped and applauded" when James was playing with the snitch. Wormtail was cheering. To which Sirius said: "Put that away before Wormtail wets himself with excitement." Nah, that would never be Ron.

Plus, Ron would have NEVER been a traitor.

I love how Ron was attentive to his friends in subtle ways. Harry's lack of Christmas gifts. Hermione's schedule in PoA. Ron preparing tea in Hagrid's hut because he learnt that's what we do when people are upset. Ron perceiving Harry's wariness about his relationship with Cho. Ron's appreciation of Luna. Ron's worries about the Cattermoles. Ron's remark about the House Elves in DH.

Ron's great.

Ron was not a snivelling suck up like Wormtail. He had the power to call out Harry and Hermione on their bullshit many times. Ron is the opposite of Wormtail, in fact, a best friend who is so shunned aside that he makes it his biggest strength and uses it to protect Harry. People who equate Ron with Wormtail don't realise how insulting that is.

Well said.

They don’t know what they’ve read, if they’ve ever did.

I... dont think comparing him with wormtail is a compliment😭

Lmao! I mean I’m saying how they both went on diverging paths when it could have been similar! I believe JKR said that the two were meant to be foils of each other, to show another example of characters who made the right/wrong choices

u/curseofablacklion avatar

No she didn't. Wormtail hero worshipped James and Sirius and they treated him as an inferior. Harry never treated Ron like he was inferior to him.

James and Sirius were besties. Just like Ron and Harry.

Idk if this is actually JKR’s quote because the site I got it from wasn’t officially hers but: “Ron displays what Peter could have been if he had overcome his insecurities and remained loyal to his friends.”

That was my only meaning behind my comparison between them!

I always thought wormtail and neville were the ones who should be compared to one another.

Neville also came to hogwarts feeling that he didnt belong but does a 180 in the end unlike wormy whos fear eventually killed him
