Unfortunately there's several instances of bias in the summaries of events and many unnecessary qualifiers and emotional attributes attached to certain world events. The book is certainly not just straight facts. The editorializing is slight, but it's enough for me to return the book. I'll check out Classical Conversations world timeline book next.

The book is okay for children but honestly, there are far better 'timeline' books with much more and better information available. This book is practically blank on every page, literally full of almost completely blank white pages. There is about a short paragraph worth of information with a few pictures on each page and is extremely short (not even a sentence) for descriptions of them. The whole book could fit into 50-60 pages and that's being generous. It skips over a lot of pivotal history (understanding it is a short synopsis of it) and chooses to talk about random things like tightrope walkers and other obscure history in place of it. Lastly, the information it does provide is somewhat politically biased for example the book decides to end on January 6th, 2021, in Washington D.C. and does not shy away from giving the author(s) opinion about it.

History is often taught in isolated instances and then learnt without understanding the flow of events and especially “cause and effect”. This book solves that problem. The broader view of “what else was happening at the same time” and where? or why? - has captivated my son. MY SON CANNOT PUT THE BOOK DOWN..MENTION A DATE AND HE DIVES INTO THE BOOK.

 This is a beautiful book that looks and feels like a superior quality offering - it would make a wonderful present, and would look good in anybody's living room. It's something you can either read from cover to cover, or dip into whenever the fancy takes you. Visitors are sure to pick it up if it's around. It is educational, but also a joy to look through. The only issue I would have would be that it should probably be titled Timeline Of Human History, as it doesn't cover the period before mankind (or mankind's early ancestors) lived on the earth.

The problem most 'shallow' reference books like this have today is that they have to compete with what is available online and offer something more to make it worth the purchase price. This book, I believe, has managed to achieve that.

This is a really interesting book for anyone with an interest in the past. Each double-page spread covers the key events of an ever-shortening time period and there are the occasional more in-depth looks at a specific topic or influences such as one on Islamic Medicine 800-1300, for example.

There are loads of illustrations, colour and monochrome - though I did find a few of these not necessarily appropriate. For example, a picture used to illustrate the founding of the East India Company in 1600 used an illustration that was clearly (by the fashions shown in it) from probably a hundred years later.

But overall this is a wonderful 'starting point' book to help give a taste of the immensity and complexity of human history and to inspire someone to look more deeply into any events or topics that catch the eye.

Even if you know a lot about a certain period of history, you might still find this book entertaining. It starts about 4m years ago, and goes up to 2021, the Covid pandemic. At the beginning, the periods of time covered by a couple of pages clearly is very large, until as we get near the present, it becomes 30yrs, then 20 , then down to 4 years. There cannot be great discussion about how things came to pass, so this is more a book about happenings rather than an exploration of why or how-its mainly what and when that is covered. I liked it, because for the first time, you can get that feel for the whole of history- and it is not just Europe that is covered. Its a nice and bold attept and if something really grabs your attention, well, you can do your research with that wonderful invention, the internet. Great gift for yourself or others- for any age that can read reasonably well. Definitely a five star.
