‘The Tattooist of Auschwitz’ season 2: Is the survival drama getting renewed?

If ‘survival drama but make it real’ was the memo, Peacock seems to have got it right with their latest series The Tattooist of Auschwitz.

Released on 2 May 2024, the show is based on Heather Morris’s 2018 novel of the same name and tells the true story of Lali Sokolov, a Slovakian Jewish man.

The plot revolves around Sokolov being sent to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp at the time of World War II in 1942 and tasked by SS officers to mark the arms of other Jewish captives with identification numbers. Harvey Keitel’s honest portrayal of a holocaust survivor has kept the audiences hooked and critics busy raving about the series, so much so that they are already rooting for The Tattooist of Auschwitz season 2.

But is it happening? Here’s what we know.

The Peacock show was initially created as a limited series, meaning it was meant to wrap up the plot in its debut season only; so, chances for it being renewed for a second season are less likely.

In six episodes, it concludes the story of Lali Sokolov, his harrowing time at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, and his love for his future wife through the perspective of an older Lali.

However, Morris’s original book has two sequels that focus on other individuals. The second volume (The Tattooist of Auschwitz #2) talks about Cilka Klein’s Journey, an 18-year-old former captive at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Cilka was accused of helping the Nazis and was sent to the Vorkuta Gulag in Siberia by the Soviets.

Meanwhile, the third volume, Three Sisters, revolves around Cibi, Magda, and Livia, who also ended up at Auschwitz-Birkenau. So, perhaps the second season can be a spin-off and adapt either of these stories as a TV show.
