Came by The Captain for another visit before leaving Shanghai and was not disappointed: It has some of the best cocktails in town, and a delightful cheese and cold cuts platter and a delicious pepperoni pizza to pair with! Cocktails wise, I highly recommend the...Hipster Sailor for a fresh, herbaceous kind of cocktail, or the Thai Sailor, if you’re looking for something deep and mellow. It should be stressed that The Captain should really feel proud of their team, as all of them tended to our table with a friendly smile that makes you want to come back. During our evening our table was tended by Elizabeth who undoubtedly made our visit more enjoyable, by assisting us with our orders and by suggesting us other noteworthy cocktails in the menu, such as the Tiki Bund. Although I didn’t personally enjoy it as much, it just proves that The Captain’s bartender is a talented, multifaceted and versatile mixologist who is able to create various flavor profiles to tend to anyone’s preference! Besides the excellent service, tasty food and delicious cocktails, one cannot forget the amazing view over Shanghai. It is simply stunning. Thank you for making our last night in Shanghai a truly memorable one!More

Went to the Captain after being recommended. And it was for sure worth the Visit. We had a great night, very good drinks and the western inspired food was great. The ship alike interior creates a very cosy environment, and when the sun is down...you can experience the light shows from the bund skyline while sitting on a great outdoor terras. The place is very social and quite busy, so if you want to catch a table for dinner make sure to book. If you don’t have a booking I’m guessing that you will receive the same service as I did by the door. Special thanks to James for solving this. The overall service was great!!More

As new arrivals in Shanghai, my friends suggested we go for Brunch at The Captain as it has a great view of the bund. That is the one thing I think this place has going for it. It is quite quirky in that you take...the lift (elevator) to the fifth floor above the hostel and then need to walk up a flight o stairs to get to the restaurant. We arrived a bit later than hoped, most of our group (I think there were 12 or 13 of us) had arrived 20 minutes before and had placed their orders, this meant that some people had actually finished their meal before others received theirs. This is bad service, yes the dining room was full but they should be able to deal with the numbers, it is not an enormous dining room, perhaps no more than 40 or 50 heads. It was close to an hour after I arrived that I received what was a nice "sharing platter" with some great quality meat. (I think it was 199RMB) my wife and I ate that and then ordered the venison burger, we hadn't planned on doing that but the sharing platter was not enough to fill us both up. The food was good but when you charge 40RMB for a glass of orange juice, I do not consider it to be anything but overpriced. They even have Tennants larger (Scottish) for 80RMB a glass!More

Booked a table on the terrace. Views were absolutely amazing. The waiters and waitresses were very friendly, however the food and drinks were over priced and there were not many options for vegans. There is also a time limit of 2 hours that you can...remain in the restaurant after that you need to leave because of this we felt like we were constantly watched and on the clock. Not a nice feeling when you want to enjoy a nice relaxed eveningMore

The service was pretty decent, they attended our request of extra bread. We ordered meatballs, lasagna, oysters and a Caesar salad. The swedish meatballs and the oyters were pretty nice. Not in love with the lasagna and the salad was bad:extremely salty (we could barely...eat it) and with whole pieces of lettuce (even the bitter parts). As it happens with most of the places on rooftops near The Bund, you pay for the view. 4 dishes were about 390 yuan.More

The service was great here. The view is nice. We thought the food was decent for Western food in China. However, the bill left us with a bad taste in our mouth at the end. I had asked for water with my meal. Usually you...receive a glass of water for free or you are asked if you would like to pay for a bottled water. In this case, we weren't asked and were just poured some bottled water. That's fine, but the price for that bottle of water ended up being 75 RMB (~11.58 USD)! We felt completely scammed by this. I've never seen such expensive water in my life. It really seemed to me like this should be disclosed first before it's opened up and poured into your glass.More

Very bad service from 2 of the girls (one is named alexis) Bunch of impolite service crews ruining experience. Not welcoming and not smiling faces, they needed to be retrained and drop their btch faces. It’s not right for a rooftop food house. they affect...my impression with other service crews who were nice. Such a waste, hope they improve.More

as the listing states, it is one of Shanghai's hidden gems and well worth a visit. It boasts a rooftop deck that faces Luijiazui and all the iconic buildings. What makes it better than other similar type places near the Bund though are the budget...friendly prices. It is just as,famous for that as its for its views. From what I experienced it operates a first come first served policy with regards to seating. So, if you are a group or a couple and prepared to wait, eventually you will get a good table. Shanghai has a handful of rooftop bars and this is one of the best.More

The Captain has a great view and its a bit different to other Bund views, being set a bit back from the river. We celebrated a birthday party and I was impressed with the food provided and the service. It gets busy, so book if...you can. Always worth a visitMore

I visited Shanghai and I got recommended this place that has a nice rooftop in the top of the hostel. The view is great and overlooks the skyscrapers across the river. The terrace was very cozy and the drinks and food super good. The service...was excellent, I highly recommend to visit this place! Will definitely go back.More

This is a wonderful cocktail bar, with passionate, skilled bartenders making excellent drinks. Highly recommended not only for the great view but also the friendly service and well-executed drinks! Bartender s Peter and Eric and Bobo are hardworking and very nice guys.

Don’t be afraid when you arrive: even though it looks you are in the wrong place, probably it is correct. Elevator not nice but pay attention to the signs. Take the elevator to the last floor and after take the stairs. Try to get a...table outside to get the view of The Bund. Nice drinks and pizza (there are other things to eat) but a bit overpriced. It is a relaxed rooftop, no lux but nice place to go.More

I went to this place a couple of weeks ago to have a drink and enjoy the view. The doorman requested 100RMB fee to get in and was rude. I left. This place used to be nice and friendly but it seems they are not...only interested in getting the cash in the evening.More
