The marriage of an advertising man is jeopardized when he gets a chance to sell a novel he's been working on and quits his job to concentrate on writing. In order to support the family, the wife is forced to take a job as a dancer in a Broadway show. As the marriage begins to fall apart, complications ensue when she discovers that she's pregnant.

Norman Foster as a struggling writer with, Carole Lombard, a wife that supports him while he tries to get it right. And throw in a bunch of drunken fiends to liven the party and you get a lot of funny moments. Of course it's a bit stage bound and quirky since it's a '31 movie, which is why, unless you are a major Lombard fan, watching the remake Thanks for the Memory (1938) starring Bob Hope might be a better option. They didn't do many changes in the script, so it's almost the same movie with slightly better production values.
Aficionados of The Thin Man will recognize an exchange that playwrights Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich recycled from their comedy-drama of young marrieds in Manhattan. (This was probably very daring in its day, with its wife supporting a writer husband, and the threat of Carole Lombard raising her and Eddie Nugent's child alone.) Is there a copy out there with the second-to-last reel's audio intact?
The combination of it being very similar to Brief Moment (1933) and the terrible quality of the video/sound made this a less than thrilling experience. As expected, Carole Lombard was the best thing in it.
I withstood a terribly shaky print of the film and audio going missing for more than five minutes towards the end (at least it came back) all cause Carole Lombard is totally worth it.

Great pre-code cast, but that's the main reason most people are watching this, I'm sure.
