I bought this CD mainly for Tony Martin's version of 'Stranger In Paradise'. There were several versions of this song in the mid-fifties, the most popular being by Tony Bennett; but I think Martin's recording is far superior. Tony Martin had a very fine baritone voice and, on the right material, he was as good as any other singer around during the 40's/50's. He didn't always pick the best songs to sing, but when he did, on things such as 'Walk Hand In Hand', 'There's No Tomorrow', 'Marta' and 'I Apologize', all included on this 2-CD set, he could shine. This is a decent compilation for the money, but a single CD would probably have included all the recordings you really need to hear; so I guess you should regard the rest as fairly interesting bonus tracks.
Been looking for this collection all my life. Growing up in the forties and fifties, this is the music and voice by which I counted the days of my youth as I listened to it on WSB Radio, in Atlanta. This collection contains all my favorites, and they evoque the many memories associated with them. I sit back, listen, and see my youthful past.
Bought this for his song "Kiss of Fire" to give to my friend who wanted to learn the words to sing to her boyfriend ~ He was a wonderful singer ~ don't know about her tho ~ Laugh and Love while it is still free ~ joking of course
