They separated. Shortly after, in an interview he was asked about whether he'd ever consider making films as part of his art. He said something along the lines of not liking the idea of a film/movie album. Melanie fans ran with that quote on twitter, calling it a shade towards Melanie because of K-12. Maybe it was a jab, but I always thought he was more likely just talking about his own personal preference with his own art. Not much else is really known. People like to speculate and spread rumours but I don't think that's fair when we don't know exactly what has gone on, as neither have said much at all about the situation. For all we know it could've ended just fine. Edit; other comments have reminded me that Melanie did outright say they ended on good terms.

Oh she most definitly did, actually most of her album is about him, Tunnel Vision, Moon Cycle, and Nymphology for sure, they originally ended on good terms yes, or at least that was what melanie said, but i always had a hunch she was saying thay to play nice, since i do believe she wanted to believe it was good terms, or at least lead us to believe it was. No doubt to try and protect him in a way, but I'm assuming something transpired between them that really soured it after the fact, like the fact ge had an actress join him on stage for one of his performances. She was dressed to look akin to Melanie Martinez while he made fun of her. So yea, I don't blame her for writing this about him, he really does strike me as the type to act like a child while wanting the respect of an adult.
i think that Death is also somewhat about him. The dress that she wears on her dead body is the same dress that she wore in a picture with Oliver. She also has the same exact hairstyle. And her new self is stabbing her old one. It could all be on big coincidence, but maybe not

Moon Cycle is about her period and about having a boyfriend who likes to and doesn't mind having sex while she's on it. It's a very positive song about how menstrual cycles are natural and should not be hushed topic. I don't see how it would pertain to OT, it sounds to me she's speaking about a current BF.

the song is definitely normalizing menstrual cycles and saying that their normal, but i think she definitely has references to oliver tree. possibly he was a sex addict, since a lot of her songs refer to that.

yes but that was when she was still defending him for the things he did in their relationship because she still loved him, i personally have had several situations where i didn’t come out about who they actually were and how they actually treated me until days months or years later because of just not wanting to make their life worse or because i hadn’t realized how they treated me was wrong yet
