Moon (more exploration) Resident evil Revelations (best modern resident evil)

And there is that new Iron Fall game that I hear is pretty decent. Is It out yet? Idk

u/henryuuk avatar

Not yet.

Kid Icarus: Uprising is awesome. Ironfall is coming out soon and that could potentially be a great game. Resident Evil: Revelations is great (according to what I've heard, haven't played it myself).

Kid Icarus feels more like a rail shooter and action adventure hybrid. Also I couldn't stomach the terrible voice acting and it feels nothing like the franchise it gets its name from.

u/Brega avatar

Terrible? I'd say it's very camp, but not terrible.

I imagine they're really talking about the writing, but I can't speak for them. The VA was spot on for the script though.

Haha, I loved the voice acting, but it's not for everyone, I guess.

Well the first half of every level is a rail shooter, the second half isn't.

It's not terrible, it's for younger audiences. Some of the humour in it is pretty cringe worthy, if that's what you're referring to. Kid Icarus is my favourite 3DS game of all time.

What is this?

u/HaphStealth avatar

Haven't played it myself but I have heard good things about mgs3

Both Resident Evil Revelations and Resident Evil Mercenaries are good, with Revelations being the far better single player and overall value. Mercs is no slouch, however; it's got a great arcade feel to it, being more shooter in nature to Rev's traditional RE-style (read: atmosphere and puzzles and limited ammo). Ironfall Invasion is looking very promising, and comes out sometime in Feb. With the new 3DS coming that has an integrated second control "stick", I'm hoping more developers will jump on board- it just takes one really good game to corner the market, if for no other reason than a lack of competition

Thirding Kid Icarus Uprising, though the ground segments feel kind of like a hybrid between a third person shooter and a beat 'em up.

Define "good", because I hold Kid Icarus Uprising as my 4th favorite game of all time for story, soundtrack, characters, and controls.

u/Saboteure avatar

What are the other three out of curiosity?

Super Smash Bros. 4 (both Wii U and 3DS), Xenoblade, and Fire Emblem Awakening. I love these four games because they have amazing soundtracks in addition to the fact that I'm still playing all of them constantly since their launch date with over 100+ hours logged in each one.

Yes, I really like Awakening and yes, I actually did play the earlier Fire Emblem games.

Controls? You praise KI:U for it's controls?

u/rockincellist avatar

Absolutely.

The ground aiming system is the fastest and most precise aiming system I've seen other than a keyboard and mouse. It allows you to rotate the camera a full 360 degrees swiftly yet stop exactly where you want to be. In addition, you're able to precisely aim, very well and very quickly.

For me the controls are fluid, functional, and really friggin fast. I think they're perfect for the type of game KIU is.

That's the thing though, the camera keeps sliding until you tap the screen again. Or maybe I'm remembering incorrectly but I just played it again a few weeks ago.

u/rockincellist avatar

Yep. That's correct. Because of the "globe-spinning-like" controls of it, it allows you to rotate quickly yet stop exactly where you want to aim.

u/ZachGuy00 avatar

Yeah, and that didn't get super-frustrating for you? Not only that but it made the experience better? How?

It may be a fluid and precise system, but it's all brought down by being incredibly awkward to hold. I'm sitting at 25% story completion on my copy and it's staying there until I get my N3DS and can have comfortable dual-analog controls.

u/rockincellist avatar
  1. I was fine with holding it for hours upon end with the XL (your mileage will of course vary)

  2. The N3DS or the CPP doesn't support duel analog controls.

u/powermad80 avatar

KI:U doesn't support CPP to aim? Man, why would they do that?

I agree as well. The controls took a couple levels for me to get used to, but once I did it was responsive and easy. Using the silly little stand actually helped tremendously.

The online mp was good too, albeit glitchy sometimes. Chalk it up to my slower connection. Still worked better than most other games I've played.

I do too.
Never had any issues with it.

u/ManbosMambo avatar

Not just controls, but those absolutely empty and annoying characters that could have been ripped form the pages of a million terrible mangas. Yuck, what a bad game.

You really need to play some better games.

u/rockincellist avatar

¯_(ツ)_/¯

I like what I like. I especially like those four games for their phenomenal soundtracks, however. Do you have any suggestions on what I should try though?

u/ManbosMambo avatar

It looks like all of your "favorite" games are really recent, and also that you love a good soundtrack. In terms of great classics with great soundtracks you could try Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Paper Mario: TTYD, Metroid games, Sonic games before '95, Castlevania games, Warioland games, Cave Story, classic Final Fantasy games, Gunstar Heroes, just so many great games to have your list be so thin and recent.

Also, you seem to really like Fire Emblem, maybe you could branch out and try a game called X-Com UFO Defense. Many people would call that the best turn based strategy game of all time, and I agree. (A new reboot called X-Com Enemy Unknown is also great)

LOVE EarthBound and Mother 3, LOVE Chrono Trigger, have not played Chrono Cross, ABSOLUTELY LOVE PM:TTYD (doing a third playthrough right now.

I absolutely love the Metroid series, but haven't played Metroid II (although I'm playing through it right now)

I can't seem to get into pre-95 Sonic games. I've tried, but I just don't like them.

I like Castlevania, Warioland. I love Cave Story. Tried to get into classic FF games but couldn't. I think I have Xcom on Steam, but never got around to trying it.

Many of the games you mentioned already rest in my top 10 of all time.

I quite like Steel Diver Sub Wars. Certainly not for everyone, but it's free if you want.

u/KarjarA avatar

Not for 3ds specifically, but Metroid Prime Hunters is great

Just bought an EBay lot with Metroid Fusion and Prime Hunters, looking forward to checking it out!
