The entire series based on the novel by R.F. Delderfield, in which John Duttine stars as David Powlett-Jones, a young soldier from the Welsh valleys, invalided out of the army in the First World War, suffering from shell-shock. He takes up a career as a teacher at Bamfylde, a boys boarding school in Devon, where, despite his reservations and scepticism, he becomes immersed in school life.
