Hartselle woman faces bank theft charges

A Hartselle woman has been accused of stealing at least $3,000 from two banks.

Amanda Anne Spain, 32, of Hartselle is facing charges of first- and second-degree theft. She is currently in the Morgan County Jail under $7,500 bond.

In a press release from the Decatur Police Department,  Redstone Federal Credit Union filed a theft report on Feb. 22 after the bank suffered a loss in excess of $500 from an accountholder in approximately nine days.

On the following day, Family Security Credit Union filed a theft report with the Decatur Police Department due to the institution suffering a loss in excess of $2,500 from an accountholder in approximately seven days.

Police said Spain was developed as a suspect.

Authorities also discovered that numerous transactions had been conducted by the suspect in Decatur, in which she obtained money from her accounts at both banks that came from deposited checks, by her, at both banks as well as other area banks that returned to overdrawn and closed accounts.

On April 18, Det. Justin Lyon obtained one warrant for FSCU for 1st degree theft and one warrant for RFCU for 2nd degree theft.

Spain turned herself into the Decatur Police Department on Wednesday, May 10.
