V Rising blood types and blood quality guide

If you play a game about vampires, you should expect that things will get bloody. In V Rising, besides avoiding the sun, you’ll have to juggle your hunger by filling up your blood pool with several different types and qualities to pick from. Each will provide unique benefits based on their overall quality. Using the right blood type for the job can make your nocturnal life much easier.

What are blood types?

When you fight an enemy or a creature and manage to get their health low, you will see an option to Feed by pressing the F button. Once you feed on them, you will fill up your blood pool and gain their blood type.

• While feeding on an enemy will kill them, it will also leave you vulnerable to attack. You can cancel feeding by pressing the left mouse button.

Each blood type provides five tiers of bonuses that will stack with each other. In relation to that, each blood type provides different perks that you can use in other areas of the game. The different types of blood you can have include:

• Frailed
• Creature
• Worker
• Brute
• Rogue
• Warrior
• Scholar
• Mutant
• Draculin

How to determine blood quality

In addition to the specific blood type, each creature has a varying degree of blood quality. This is represented by the percentage next to their type. The higher the percentage, the more tiers of blood type perks their blood will activate. 

Note that these percentages do not stack. If you have 40% Rogue blood active and drink from a 15% Rogue next, the qualities will supplant. So it won’t end up being 55% Rogue, instead, your 40% Rogue will become 15%, essentially getting weaker. However, sometimes you’ll have to drink lower-quality blood, like in situations when your blood pool gets depleted.

All blood type bonuses

You can adapt your playstyle to the blood types you have access to. Each provides useful bonuses, so it’s a matter of picking the right tool for the job at hand. 

Frailed

The weakest blood type which provides no bonuses and simply serves to fill up your blood pool. You can get the Frailed blood type by drinking Rats and Tainted Hearts.

Creature

This blood type is gained by drinking animal blood, like deer, moose, wolf, and others. It’s excellent for travel and exploration.

• Tier 2: 10-25 Increased Sun Resistance
• Tier 3: 10-20% Damage Reduction
• Tier 4: 50-100% Increased Health Regeneration
• Tier 5: Boost all above effects by 30%

Worker

Worker blood can be gained by drinking from various labourers around the world, like villagers, miners, and woodcutters. This is the premiere blood type for any extensive farming.

• Tier 1: 10-30% Increased Resource yield
• Tier 2: 15-25% Increased Damage against Resource Nodes
• Tier 3: 10-20% Increased mounted Gallop Speed
• Tier 4: 3% Chance to instantly destroy a resource node and trigger a burst of speed
• Tier 5: Boost all above effects by 30%

Brute

You can get Brute blood by drinking from enemies like Stalker, Cleric, and Tractor Beamer, among others. This blood type offers excellent sustainability through healing during combat.

• Tier 1: 5-10% Primary attack Life Leech
• Tier 2: 8-15% Increased Primary Attack Speed and 1 extra Gear Level
• Tier 3: Healing received increased by 15-30%. Heal for 4% of your victim’s health after a killing blow.
• Tier 4: 6% Chance per relative health recovered to boost movement speed by 20% and damage of primary attacks by 20%
• Tier 5: Boost all above effects by 30%

Rogue

Rogue blood type comes from sneaky enemies like Poacher, Deadeye, and Militia Archer, to name a few. Largely combat-oriented, it mainly focuses on speed and critical strikes.

• Tier 1: 10-20% chance to Critical Strike on Weapon Attacks
• Tier 2: 8-15% Movement Speed
• Tier 3: 12-25% Reduced cooldown on travel skills, 100% chance to critical strike on next physical attack after using a travel skill
• Tier 4: 50% Chance on Critical Strike to expose victim’s armor, increasing damage taken from all sources by 15% for 4s
• Tier 5: Boost all above effects by 30%

Warrior

To get Warrior blood type you will have to drink blood from martial enemies, like Thug, Bomber, or Militia Guard. It is mostly based around empowering your weapon attacks and skills.

• Tier 1: 10-20% Increased Physical Power
• Tier 2: 8-15% Reduced cooldown on Weapon Skills
• Tier 3: 8-15% Reduced damage taken and 25% increased damage when striking full-health enemies
• Tier 4: 15% Chance to parry an attack reducing damage taken by 50%. Parrying an attack increases your damage by 25%
• Tier 5: Boost all above effects by 25%

Scholar

Scholar blood can be obtained from magically inclined enemies like Devoted, Nun, or Pyro. It greatly increases your spell power and magical abilities.

• Tier 1: 10-20% Increased Spell Power
• Tier 2: 8-15% Reduced cooldown on Spells
• Tier 3: 5-10% Spell Life Leech
• Tier 4: 15% Chance to reset spell cooldown on cast
• Tier 5: Boost all above effects by 25%

Mutant

You can get Mutant blood by drinking from mutated creatures found later in the game, like Mutant Spitter, Flesh Golem, and Rat Horror, among others. This blood type improves your resistances and provides alternative gameplay options.

• Tier 1: 25-50% reduced Blood Drain rate
• Tier 2: 10-25 Increased All Resistance rating
• Tier 3: 10-20% Increased movement speed while shapeshifted
• Tier 4: 40% Chance to convert the victim to a random Mutant after killing them with a Bite
• Tier 5: Boost all above effects by 30%

Draculin

Draculin blood can be obtained after drinking from enemies from the Legion of Noctum faction, like Night Maiden, Blood Prophet, Gargoyle, and others. The bonuses from this blood type play into the ultimate vampire fantasy.

• Tier 1: 10-20% movement speed during the night
• Tier 2: 10-20% increased damage against enemies below 30% health
• Tier 3: 40-80% increased healing received from Blood Mend
• Tier 4: Grants one additional Bite charge and heal for 5% of your maximum health when killing an enemy using Bite
• Tier 5: Boost all above effects by 25%

How to find and maintain high-quality blood types

When you start out in V Rising, the only way to confirm an opponent’s blood type is by mousing over them. Next to their health bar, you’ll see the name of their blood type, as well as their blood quality expressed in percentage. Remember that the higher the percentage, the more blood type perks you will unlock after feeding on them.

However, there is no surefire way to seek out high-quality blood of any type. You will have to go out into the world and explore. That means that you’ll sometimes have to sustain yourself on lower-quality blood until you find someone better to feed on, especially early on.

If you’re playing in multiplayer, other vampires can use Expose vein to share half of their blood pool with you.

Detecting blood with Blood Hunger

After you beat the boss Tristan the Vampire Hunter, you will get the Blood Hunger vampire ability. Activating it will make it far easier to detect blood types in the world around you. Instead of having to mouse over enemies, this ability reveals the blood types and quality of every creature on the screen.

High-quality blood with consumables

Later in the game, you will get access to Prison Cells. Building them will be the first step in getting and maintaining a stable source of your preferred blood type. Find the victim with the blood type and quality that you’re looking for, then capture them by using the Dominate Human vampire power.

You’ll be able to imprison your victim in the cell, which will give you access to their blood. Make sure to extract their blood into Blood Potions and Blood Merlots. These are consumables that you can use to restore your blood pool while maintaining your chosen blood type.
