Robert Plant was just two albums into his solo career when he recorded a for-broadcast live performance in front of UK TV cameras in the summer of 1983, but already he was proving himself to be as fearlessly exploratory on his own as he had been while fronting hard-rock juggernauts Led Zeppelin throughout the 70s. A cover of Little Sister, a throwback rocker that Elvis Presley had taken to the top of the UK charts in 1961, flashed Plant's credentials as a one-man encyclopaedia of vintage tunes, while highlights from his then latest album, The Principle Of Moments - including the polished ballad Big Log and the synth-laden atmospherics of In The Mood - proved that he was more than capable of shrugging off the past in order to expand his sound into the future. An electrifying live performer with Led Zeppelin, as a solo artist Plant could still plug into the elements, as The 1983 UK Broadcast makes abundantly clear. Double CD format.

A good concert and RP was interacting with the audience well. Reading the description I was expecting a 'soundboard' quality recording. Sounds more like a good audience recording.
This is an audio recording from Plant's TV recording session on Channel Four's "The Tube" as usually broadcast from Newcastle, recorded onto cassette tape by an intrepid member of the audience. This set had been filmed on 22nd June 1983. As is evident, Plant and the band are nowhere near well rehearsed enough to carry this set off and find themselves running through repeat re-runs of several tracks, which fair no better second time around. The entire set is tired and listless, bordering on tedium and would test the patience of the most ardent fan. It's an episode blip soon forgotten in the grand scheme of Plant's variable career. Plant subsequently made a deal with the TV producers to ensure that they did not broadcast this embarrassment. I'm sure he considered the £7,000 production cost bill that Tyne Tees TV had incurred to film this set that Plant refunded to them as loose change. 3-stars for historical interest value only.
