About

Thanks to its location on a bend of the river Thames, the views of London from Waterloo Bridge are some of the best around. With the South Bank on one side, and St Paul’s Cathedral and Canary Wharf on the other, there are plenty of great photo opportunities.

The Grade II listed bridge is actually the second Waterloo Bridge: the first was demolished after significant deterioration. Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, whose work also includes Battersea Power Station and the iconic red telephone box, designed the current bridge.

It was built during World War II and is colloquially known as "the ladies’ bridge" thanks to the significant number of women who worked on the construction after many of the usual male workers were called up to fight.
