71% Tomatometer 103 Reviews 88% Audience Score 1,000+ Ratings Based on an award-winning play ("The Audience") by showrunner Peter Morgan, this lavish, Netflix-original drama chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II from the 1940s to modern times. The series begins with an inside look at the early reign of the queen, who ascended the throne at age 25 after the death of her father, King George VI. As the decades pass, personal intrigues, romances, and political rivalries are revealed that played a big role in events that shaped the later years of the 20th century. Critics Consensus

In its fifth season, it's hard to shake the feeling that this series has lost some of its luster -- but addictive drama and a sterling cast remain The Crown's jewels.

Keith Uhlich (All (Parentheses)) The penultimate season leans so hard into metaphor that the characters can’t help but remark on the fact in catty ways comparable to Rose Nylund’s sick burn of Dorothy Zbornak in one of my favorite Golden Girls episodes. Nov 15, 2022 Full Review Hugo Rifkind Times (UK) I think there's a bit of a tonal irregularity here, buried under the prestige. Nov 14, 2022 Full Review Kristen Baldwin Entertainment Weekly Therein lies this year's theme: Tradition versus progress, the status quo versus a society in transition. And it all takes place against the backdrop of "The War of the Waleses," the very public battle between Charles and Diana. Rated: B Nov 14, 2022 Full Review Mini Anthikad-Chhibber The Hindu Perfectly cast, the new season of The Crown is powered by amazing acting, led by a statuesque Elizabeth Debicki. Oct 4, 2023 Full Review Gary Younge The Nation History has already delivered its verdict on those who inherit power and remain unaccountable; The Crown merely illustrates the degree to which the institution doesn’t even work for the people who run it. Abed D Debicki and West were unbelievable..goosebumps all over my body what a show and what a performance..the lines are so articulate and well-situated that its definitely a 5/5 english drama that remind me of I claudius.. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/07/24 Full Review Savannah G Elizabeth Debicki really crushes it- I love the lines and story telling bringing these real life events to the screen. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/08/24 Full Review Rhianna J I know a lot of people are unsure over casting going into the 90s period of the show, I honestly thought this Queen had the most similarities to Claire Foy in the first two seasons. Their mannerisms if you watch closely are quite spectacularly similar. I would vote Olivia Coleman was the odd one in the middle and the casting of the seniors has since improved. I do, however have to argue that the mid series Prince & Princesses had a lot of structure and humour that this season has lacked. Anne and Charles were more compelling in previous season. It's been a rollercoaster when it comes to casting - I am hoping we can see this current one rise to the occasion in Season 6. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/03/24 Full Review Sal D Season 5 is watchable dramatization of some form of history. Regardless, the show has markedly dropped from its peak with Claire Foy (seasons 1 & 2) and Olivia Coleman (seasons 3 & 4). I am feeling a bit apathetic of the series conclusion in season 6. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/17/23 Full Review Paula M We've loved watching the crown always found it educational of our country's history and I've found it an authentic approach however we not buying this new season I feel like the royal families had a word and they portraying it all in the royal families favour it's so transparent - trying to save face since the Harry & Meghan scandal but it's more obv than a breeze block hitting you in the face Just saying Windsor's 🤷‍♀️ Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/24/23 Full Review Alyssa B I think i know the problem with this season. One is the overuse of metaphors and assuming that audiences cannot think for themselves and the other is the lack of politics that make the show so special. Plus, the release window should've been moved after all the real-life tabloid drama it made viewers tired of royal drama and even think this is a documentary. I find this season better than the best seasons of regular dramas out there. Another well-acted and directed historical dama. Season 6 will be the best and that's for sure.
